Have you driven a classic?
Had 3 Classics, still got 2, rough value about £2k ea (on a good day).
Had a 35kmiles 53 plate WRX blobeye this year for £7k. Had it 3 months and sold it as we found it too slow and boring. Very refined and quiet but too heavy/ponderous and no fun
. Luckily we still had the classics so sold the blobeye and went back to the fun life. Better bang per buck and more smiles per mile so not all classic owners are strapped for cash newage wannabes. Some of us who were brought up in Vivas (yes I am that old), Escorts, Marinas, Cortinas, Porsches and mid engined Lancias like to be in contact with the road, not isolated from it, and don't particularly care what they look like. Just what they drive like. Each to his own
Maybe the Sti's are better but they ARE out of my budget and, as I have never driven one, I reserve judgement on them. But they would have to be SERIOUSLY better to justify the extra £8k purchase price and the potential depreciation, road tax etc.
Helmet on and waiting, Merry Christmas

I had 3 classics and then a blobeye STI which I owned for four years during which I tried to convince myself I preferred it to my previous classics. Finally sold it and made the mistake of getting back in a friend's classic for a drive - bought one straight away!
It was like coming home and I just feel in tune with it whereas I never did with the blobeye. Simple as that really. It may not be as fast as the STI I had, but I enjoy driving it more and isn't that what car ownership should be about?

Er maybe because some of us prefer the classic.

5 classics for me. I'll never ever own a bug eye or the 'new' shape. I might get a blobeye one day. More than likely if I get another Impreza it will be another typeR.
Yeah I read it and was just giving you another point of view. No axe to grind either way - I like classics, doesn't make them better or worse cars than the newage - just means I prefer them.
Think the clasic shape is nicer even if it is dated, but agree about the interiors although car interioris have ever really turned me on - as long as the seats are good who cares LOL!
Anyway as someone else said - we all love our Scoobs

Just a knee jerk reaction to similar statements on the Porker websites when anyone suggested anything other than a 911. My wifes 944 turbo Silver Rose would annihilate all but the 911 turbos (255bhp, 60 in 5.2s and 160mph top) but was consistantly met with "why would you want one of those? Can't you afford a 911?"
and it irritates me when people make judgements on what you can afford, not what you prefer. The OP was about which you prefer, not which you can afford. We loved the shape and looks of our blob and can see the attraction, just wasn't us. Have fun with yours and we will have fun with ours
They are all cracking cars and it's great that this forum caters for all, not just one type

I always have a grin on my face when someone says I prefer classics to newer shapes as 'I can't afford a newer car'. My old P1 cost £29,000 and the 22b I had cost £24,000. For the majority, it's not about prices but choices.

Wow!! Seems I've upset a few people. Sorry about that. That last comment no 48 was just mean!!
To be expected from a newbie!!
For the record, this is just my opinion, because I am allowed one, I still prefer the look of a blob, hawk or even bug more than ANY classic I'm affraid regardless of power figures....
Please dont all quote me and give me more grief, i am not an internet troll. I just know what i like, even if you dont agree.

My preference for a drivers car is my STi Type RA, it's just plain mental and as close to race car as I will get without stripping it right out and bolting on a roll cage.
But I think the shape that really marks the end of the Subaru saloon really well is the hawkeye, especially a nicely kitted out STi Type UK Hawkeye shape, they seemed to have merged the lines of the classic and the aggressive stance of the blobeye just right.
I am not going to say one is better than the other, end of the day these cars are leagues ahead of what is out there and remember you probably won't get this kind of car again (from any manufacturer).
i had a 2005 sti type uk with 377bhp was very smooth and very responsive and on the motorway would wipe the floor with most things,
and now ive got a wrx ra with bout 310bhp and its much more aggresive but very laggy but if i could have my 05 back i would in a blink

I've owned 2 classics and 2 newage in the order below and how long I've owned them
These were my family run-a-round and Trackday car so had to do both well
MY00PPP 2.5 years
MY02STi 3 years
MY99STi Type R 7 months
MY06 STi Type20 3 years
The Type R may have been the best "Photogenicaly" as the V5 & V6's were the best looking classics
but as see by the length of time owned the Type R, I much prefered the looks and the handling Newage car.
But as many have said "everyone to their own" It would be a sad old world if we all liked the same things.

Ok, time to stop Nathan bashing and back to the OP.
Nathan prefers newage as they look better (in his opinion)
I prefer classics cos they drive better (in my opinion)
Nobody meant any offense and some of us are too touchy. We are all agreed that what you can or can't afford don't come into it, ok
So, to continue the thread, which do you prefer, and why?
Merry Christmas

Classic every time for me, owned 4 now, 2 wagons, 2 P1's a bugeye WRX, WR1, and wife has an 08STI, now own 08STI & 117,000 mile P1
Never got on with the WR1, great car nothing wrong with it, but not the drivers car the P1 is in our opinion, you sit too high in the car & don't feel part of it
08STI, Euro spec, so Recaro's BBS wheels etc, lovley car, well built, but the P1 went to Corsica recently
Each to their own & it depends what you want the car for, us we love classics

As for OP classics for me car'nt aford newage

Dont see how you say classics have pin point control? (especially uk cars, the JDM ones with the faster racks and dccd may have!) my first one being new was never as precise a car as some of the hot hatches i owned, my second scoob was a new age, much more focused, much better build, considerably better power delivery, and i would buy another one at the drop of a hat if i had the money
but i dont, so my 3rd (and very recently aquired) scoob is a classic, and were i wouldnt normally buy a classic, this one was such a lovely car and in very good condition, that it needed me to buy her
1st car MY00 Dutch import in sonic blue (and had some nice mods by the time i sold her
)
2nd car MY03 WRX STI Spec C 17 inch (also new) which just left me gobsmacked, THE best scoob i have ever owned
3rd car is an MY99 STi type R
still getting to know this one
but i think i will enjoy her nearly as much as the Spec C

I had a classic uk and was going to get a blobeye sti, drove a mates one and then went and got a v5 Ra
Just didnt like the feel of the newage
But my Ra has only one seat in it and all the sound deadening and carpets stripped out (weekend car)
If i commuted i would have a newage sti
