Default A Sad Day

Crashed my Spec D last Tuesday morning, hit a BMW on a bend, skidded on black ice while doing no more than 15 mph, BMW doing less than that.
Horrified to learn today that damage to mine is in excess of 10k and will probably be written-off.
Air bags not deployed in either vehicle so just find it hard to believe so much damage has been caused.

Default A`sad day

Have had a few Subarus in my time but never involved in an accident.
The damage to this one has put me off getting another though!

That's a write off..??? Bloody hell.

Glad to hear you're ok though. That black ice can catch anyone out at any speed. Hope it's sorted to your satisfaction.

Similar looking damage to mine on a '00 WRX, which included engine mounts, suspension, as well as the bodywork, it cost just over £4.5k to repair. Mine was low speed as well. I know there's no VAT here, but £10k seems steep. I assume that your insurance are going to want 3 quotes anyway, you might get a shock.

Damage is to bent chassis, suspension, steering rack, drive shafts, wheel, tyre etc and bodywork.
Dealer has quoted 10.5 k so I'm assuming insurers will write it off, given todays crap values.

Gutted for you mate. Its always sad when this happens but at least you are okay. I once got caught out by black ice and was badly injured, recovered now though.

My mate just had his corsa written off, insurance company said damage was 60% of car value and not worth repairing, alright its only worth £2500. Dont know if this is what they all do mate.

Yes, I've heard if damage is more than 2/3 value of car then they write it off.
I took it back to dealer assuming the repair (if it goes ahead) would be superior to the non-Subaru body shop?
Still, I've been accident free until now so am not really clued-up when it comes to things like this.
Thanks to everyone for the kind commiserations.

Yup, really sucks having your pride and joy smashed, however don't assume you'll be getting it repaired by the dealer, some insurance companies insist on you using one of their authorised repairers, but that shouldn't be a bad thing.
