Default advice needed on type r gearbox Please!

hi all, i have a uk2000 scoob and ive just been told i need to replace 1st syncro, main shaft on current box. Ive just seen a type r gearbox for sale with matching rear diff and it has only covered 30.000mls.What i need advice with really is is it worth buying, what are the main advantages with the type r box apart from having shorter ratio gears. Also would it be a straight forward swap over of gearbox and diff or is there to it that, ie alterations to the ecu or is something im not aware of.

very grateful for all advice

Doesn't the type R have variable diff? If so that may need wiring up somehow. I fitted a P1 box/Diff into my MY97 classic which WAS a straight fit.

Might be worth a call to the likes of API to confirm the wiring set up.
