Default Courier service

What is the best way to get something collected from a couple of hundred miles away and delivered to my door.
I have missed out on a couple of Ebay bargains in the past due to it being pick up only.
Whch courier service is simple to use and are they cheap/reliable enough?

Thanks Bob

....................forgot to add

I sold a couple of tyres recently and the buyer travelled from London to collect as he said the couriers wanted £60 to collect them?

Just done a quotation.
A box 45cm x 45cm is £10 + vat. Seems ok.
Why was the buyer of my tyres quoted £60

Most courier compinies charge by using the actual weight or volumetric weight, which ever is heaviest/biggest.

Therefore if you have a small box but it weighs 25kg they will charge for the 25kg rather than the space it will take up in transit and vice versa

i just use a local guy with a van, it cost me 70 quid to get a bootlid/spoiler and rear bumper picked up from liverpool (to cornwall)
i think that's pretty fair as i would have to get a van, give up my time and fuel it
it depends what you're getting/sending really............. just ask around
