Thought I'd ask the expert opinions of the board......
The RB5 must be undoubtedly the best investment Scooby to date, and comes second (in performance terms) only to the great (and more expensive) P1..... but for £16K - you can get a good example (as this BBS has shown) - so which one would you go for and why ?????
A new 'goldfish look' scoob or a genuine, original & raw RB5 with PPP ??????

I do like the MY01 / 02, but I would have to agree and go with the RB5.
You could get an RB5 now while you can still get an immaculate one. Then in a couple of years, get a WRX.

I had the same choice and bought a bugeye. Then spent £ks trying to make it look a little better and more individual. Now I have the same morette-ed, 18" wheeled, sport grilled, rallytech spoilered WR blue bugeye as everyone else(with a decat centre, big backbox and an induction kit). And I'm afraid to say I'm seriously dissapointed in it. It's a comfortable car, and it handles really well compared to a completely standard pre-MY01, but it hasn;t the character of the older model IMHO, and a decent geometry sort or bump steer removal brings the old car much closer in terms of handling. If I could bring myself to take the loss I'd sell the bugeye and get an RB5 or a cool grey STI 5 or 6..ho hum I know a chap with an absolute peach of an RB5WRS which he may be selling soon too...damn!
All IMHO of course, the bug may suit you better, but not me.
Regards,
Chuck (Who luckily has an old STI4 as well to jump into when he wants to have fun )

I think the answer is in your question.
Do you a). want a raw, original and in my opinion better more involving drivers car?
or
Do you b). want something a little more refined, slightly better made, though less edgy?
I have to admit that the new car is growing on me looks wise, but having driven numerous old and new versions I still love the original "cult" car.
An STi V7 on the other hand...... now thats tempting!!!!

If you stick a decat d/p (and may be an up pipe) you can make the '01 much more edgey
Horses for courses, I'd get an '01 STi if I was looking at the moment....

[muppet mode on]
You could of course by a red, green ,blue, or silver UK MY99 add a PPP and have it sprayed grey and get some RB5 graphics, some 17" wheels and save yourself about 10K
[muppet mode off]
Drive them both is the only real answer.
cheers
