Saxo versus EVO versus Impreza
#3
Should be interesting, I had a "play" with a Saxo VTS the other weekend on a streaming wet B road. I won't bother telling you how far I distanced it on the twisties, use your imagination. Never even had to break the 60 speed limit
Okay, call me a bully, but it was fun

Gotta agree with you Neil
Driven and their testing/scoring puzzles me every time...
For me there's no contest, pound for pound the Scooby is a clear winner...
Will be interested to see how they make the Saxo the "best" car ????
Set the calendar alarm on my mobile so I dont miss it...

It was like when Top Gear did the comparison of the P1 and Evo 6 with Tiff driving the Evo 6 and that Vicky slapper in the P1. Tiff obviously wins so the Evo 6 is the better car - what a lot of dross. If you put Schumi in a Nova 1.2 he'd probably still beat me in an STi7 - that doesnt make the car any better

The question is will it be the Impreza STi7 or just a WRX? There is absolutely no point in the latter let alone adding a Saxo to the equation.

Saxo vs evo and scooby??? I own a Vts and have driven both of the others............i am struggling to see how a hatch is supposed to compare to the two bigger cars........120brake vs ???? hmmmm cant see how that will happen.
And having owned a 205gti,,,the saxo is an equal if not better. (but wont quite compare to a 200+brake motor!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Will watch that one with interest!!!!!

I'm guessing the VTS is there so they can compare whether a WRX is worth twice as much?
If they compare times around a track I'm guessing there wont be much in it, probably not more than there is between a WRX and an Evo. It does seem to be a very strange choice thoough, as other than being a quick(ish) car it has nothing in common with the other two.

Agreed Robertio ()
These comparisons are only relevant (IMHO) between cars in the same class/market.
This not meant as a Scooby snob comment.
If you were thinking of buying a Saxo, a Scoob/Evo would not be likely to be on your list and vice versa.
Doesn't make it a bad car, just aimed at a different market.
So where is the relevance in comparing them?
Might as well compare one of my company vans with my scoob.
The vans are miles better at doing what they do.

Yeh I saw this to. Its a stupid comparison to make. I bet they make the VTS the winner to (with plato driving). If they do my opinion of Driven will change thats for sure. Ive owned 2 1.6/1.9 205GTIs and VTS and although good on the twisty bits my MY99 is just on a completely different level for power and grip. Theres noway the VTS could beat a Sti7 or a standard turbo imo. Also did u notice part of the test was done on a slippery grassy/muddy track, how the hell can a VTS compete with AWD. Ok the VTS has a long 2nd gear to achieve 60mph, but I just cant see how on a short slippery track how it could keep up. It would be scrabbling for grip. I guess we will see when its shown Now the Vanquish part was good, plato doing 170mph 5-10secs later hes @ 190

Of course the Saxo will win - what a load of ****.
The week after it will be Scooby versus JCB, test 1 move three tons earth from one field to the next.
Then Scooby versus tractor, test 2 plough 6 acres of land using the machinery available.
Usually they at least mange to get 3 cars roughly (I use the term losely) comparable. I can't wait to see what sort of bo11ox they come up with. Desirability - we asked these 20 stupid old dears which car they thought was most desirable. "what is that one doing with a hole in the bonnett - no no no, I like that little one, what did you say it was called 'Paxo'.
Guess I'll just have to wait and see now.

When is it on?
I don't usually watch the sh!te for the reasons hightlighted here, but in this case I'll make an exception!
WTF are they thinking of?
Bet the categories are:
Parking in a tight space - Saxo wins
Fuel economy - Saxo wins
insurance costs - Saxo wins
oh and er performance - Saxo comes a very close 3rd
Nothing against Saxos, my woman has one, but they are not in the same league as a Scoob or an Evo.
Unless it's a Saxo with a Xsara WRC engine..........LOL

My mate has a saxo and modded it, it ok, he wanted a scooby but could not afford one, you can not even put them in the same category, it stupid. I think the evo will just do it over the scoob, only just. the saxo is just a normal day to day car. CRAZY!!!
#25
Thats right of course the saxo will win insurance and fuel economy, its a small car and the scoob and evo are high perfomance all there ranges. you have a day to day car against to super cars. can not compare them in anything.

Oh and another thing in addition to my rant above: -
Will Driven be taking responsibility for the injury or worse, when the Spotty youth in his Max'd Saxo decides he can keep up coz he's seen it on telly and puts it into a tree on his local B road. Maybe after a few incidents like this the Saxo won't win on the insurance!!!

They'll probably do something stupid like how far you can go with a litre of fuel round a race track. Like you bought a Scooby/Evo for fuel economy.
Then go to a retirement home and ask a group of 70 yr old women which car they like best.
The following week I heard it's going to battle of the C5's
Corvette v Citroen v Sinclair!!

here we go again.
OK - so are all elitist scooby owners - but don't doubt the abilities of other cars.
If its a UK WRX against a Saxo with a blower you may be slightly impressed. I know of one turbocharged saxo that is kicking out 180bhp at the front wheels - now work out how many kilos it saves over a scooby and do the maths - higher power/weight than a scooby.
should be interesting.
Ian.

Driven. Drivel more like. At least the seem to have dropped the points comparison.
May be they jusyt want the MP brigade to watch it (no offense intended!), so when it does beat the Scoob and Evo in a couploe of catagories they can boast about down the KFC!
Who the hell comes up with these comparisons - I'd love to know!
