WRX STI V3&4 buyers Guide ??
Is there at WRX STI Jap import v3/4 buyers guid anywhere. Google is not throwning up much.
I have already identified a few things to check, was just after some more.
Common engine faults apart from piston slap/big end?
Any other weaknesses in the engine bay?
Any issues with rusted brake pipes?
Where are the most common places to check for rust?
Curious to all the problems you guys have had so i can give the car a good inspection before purchase.
I look forward to your responses
Cheers
Chris

To be honest pal, it is just like viewing any other car.
-Check oil and water for colour and smell
-Check the state of consumables such as tyres, brakes, exhaust etc
-Listen for any stange noises coming from the suspension.
-Make sure you get to start the engine form cold (check for piston slap - if it dissappears when warm all is well)
-Test the brakes to make sure it pulls up in a straight line, if not, possible sticky piston in the calliper
-Check for smoke from the exhaust on boost, blue - oil - poss turbo seals gone. Black - overfueling
-Check the gearbox shifts without crunching, if it does it means that the sychros are the on their way out.
But, above all this, ask the seller about the service history. What oil do they use? When starting out on a test drive, ask whether they want you take it easy to let the engine warm up. And if you don't know what you are doing, take someone along that does.
Oh, and if you smell oil burning from the engine bay after the test drive, the driver's side rocker cover gasket is probably leaking. Cheap, but fiddly to fix.
Hope this helps.
