08 STI hatch - 1k oil change??
Looking for help with this wee query.
Handbook says 1k oil changes no longer required as the car comes with a proper oil filter.
However, I've always changed the oil and filter at 1k and was just going to follow routine.
Initially the dealer said £50, when I've phoned back to book in, it's £80 plus vat, is this ok or ott??
Cheers
Mike

That is a standard price. 1hr labour plus parts. If the book says its not required, will the dealer honour this is the engine goes pop? I'm with you on changing the oil after 1000miles.

It has nothing to do with what the dealer honours..... it has everything to do with what IM will honour in their warranty.
If it states that the 1k miles service is no longer required (don't forget we are in modern times now ).... don't bother!

Oil change not required.
If you do a search, this same point came up when the first MY08’s reached 1000 miles. Not many owners got it done; I certainly did not and have had no trouble with the car. I would advise keeping your money.

There is a school of thought in many circles that it is actually beneficial to leave the factory fill of engine oil in for 10/12000 miles as this aids the running/bedding in process.
After that oiland filter change at 6000 miles.
Call me old fashioned but i dont buy these extended service intervals of 18/20000 miles.
I suppose if you buy a new vehicle and dont intend to keep it long then it doesnt matter.
Honest John on the Telegraph motoring site has some good articles on this.
Thats not to say its Gospel but his articles usually make a lot of sense to me anyway!!!!

whats the point if it says you don't need to do it why bother ironically if you do IM could say you haven't followed service schedule and voided the warranty

Interestingly on my E.U supplied car it says change oil & filter after 1K & 3K. Not taking any chances so that is exactly what it got.
I can't think of any logic in having these totally different schedules for the same car though
Most people have different views on oil types and intervals but i would always have a 1K change regardless.

Any garage, VAT registered and using genuine Subaru parts can do the job, with warranty intact.
I'm also a bit old fashioned in that I don't like the idea of original fill oil still in a performance car, for a year!
