Default VERY Cheep cars on Autotrader....Why??

Anyone have any ideas on this:

I am just having a browse on autotrader at the moment and am finding a number of cars advertised for very low prices but the sellers states 'Do not contact me via phone as i am unable to answer' or 'Please only contact me via email'

Im assuming this is a scam of some sort but anyone know what they are playing at??

Heres an example: 55Plate X5 for £7K

Seems they attempt to scam people for deposits. Some people will leave a deposit without seeing the car

Definatly agree with that, just wondered what to watch out for because surely they can also be selling cars at reasonable prices as scams too....

Sometimes you have no choice, I had to leave a deposit to secure the car I wanted as it was 300miles away from me.

Its hard to sell at the minute, no one is parting with their money unless its a real bargain. Ive lowered the price on mine and still not getting much interest.

There's always a choice.

Especially in this economic climate, never leave a deposit on something you've not even looked at.

Lots of deposit scams about, many originate from Nigeria.

There was a sneaky one exposed on Watchdog the other day.

Deffo a scam and the same with the Audi TT and the Mini cooper!

If there is only a EMAIL address and NO phone number 99% its a SCAM!!! Being in the trade i see this all the time but Auto trader like turning a blind eye to things like this!

I tried ages ago to buy 1 and offered to fly out to get the car and pay cash and they found every excess possible to avoid that lol

All most certainly a scam. The seller will be working out of the country so you won't be able to collect, or even view the car. If you send them the money they will have the car delivered to you with a promise of a full refund if you're not happy.

Alternatively they might just want a deposit to cover the cost of delivery and tell you to pay the delivery driver the balance if you are happy with the car.

Either way you will never hear from the seller again after you've paid the money.
