It seems like some folk really are getting sick of being fleeced

Good luck to them mate, not many Gatso's i have seen are in the places where they should be. ie schools, hospitals, busy town centres and accident blackspots.

Revenue makers IMO.

Jesus, that's a load of "Greed Cameras" being turned into toast!!!

In the USA they had all this with "Greed Cameras" Joe Public did all this and, most importantly, alienated the Police & the relationship.

JP stopped helping with info on other Crimes & a general hatred between them & us.

In the end, a lot of US States stopped the "Greed Cameras" after all, Plod needs Policing by consent.

Consent of JP who they are supposed to be serving.

If they were running a business and the service was "Donkey Dirt" you'd go somewhere else.

They seem to forget the principles of Policing by consent.

What happens in the US eventually happens here.

The most interesting thing is, I never knew how many of these GC'S were being torched, why haven't the Press picked up on this?

Good Post

I only hope that the cost to repair came out of the same funds that the robbing b@s*ards get from the fines and not from us hard working tax payers

That must be costing a fortune to keep replacing all those cameras.

I never realised how many are being attacked though.

"This Gatso on the A6 in Kegworth has been turned to face away from the road. As this camera uses strips to measure the speed it will still work, only the scamera partnership will find all the pictures will be of trees and bushes. "

I travel into Swindon daily the scameras have been inactive for months already. Its just been announced officially recently thats all.

Your comments are somewhat misguided. The Police do not decide to erect a speed camera and then use the funds to fund a Christmas ball. The Police are told by government to decrease the number of people killed on the roads. They are also told that if they enter into partnerships with the local authority and other safety groups, they will receive a percentage of that profit. That is what Speed Camera Partnerships are about. The Police may then reinvest that profit into road safety. The funds cannot be used for new vehicles etc. but can be used for education and enforcement.
The majority of police officers do not see speed cameras as tools to improve road safety. They are a way of covering the cracks from under investment by the current labour government, however.
I'm sure, now you are aware of the facts, your interpretation of the term, "policing by consent" is somewhat more realistic

Sympathy for you pal ( I take you are a Plod).

The perception of Joe Public is that it is a Police led action.

In the US as I said, they have been there done that and, a lot of States have canned them.

The reality is, JP feels miffed & associate Plod with this.

AS I said at the start of the post "sympathy for you pal"

You DO need to be able to Police by consent by the public, and your Senior Officers do you no favours especially, at Election time when Blair (The Plod) had VOTE FOR LABOUR on the side of Police Vehicles.

Maybe you should get a "Peoples Copper" as a CC who could get us back on side.

The Cameras haven't helped your cause.

Mind how you go.

Peoples copper...........would you vote for me? In 23 yeras never had to give a speeding ticket.
What frustrates me and plenty of other cops, some who post on here, is that we don't agree with government policies. We don't persecute motorists. I cringe when I hear of power crazed cops being rude. Why the generalisation?
I joined the police in 1985 to serve the public. I still see my role as being to prevent and detect crime, not to tax motorists for straying over the limit.
I have never encouraged any of my officers to tax motorists. They deal with people fairly and enforce where necessary. Cameras do not discriminate or enforce fairly. After all, how many cameras smell / find drugs / detect no insurance / find stolen property? Cameras don't give advice. Cameras are not "run" by the police.
As I said, politicians dictate policy, in a disciplined organisation you do as you are told. That is how a democratic society works. As we currently stand we have a prime minister no one voted for.

As I said, sympathy for you.

How did the likes of Blair , and others like him (Braunston etc) get to be your Bosses???

Can't you sponsor someone like yourself to get the qualifactions or whatever it takes, to get the top job and, get a bit of normality back?

The "Robo Cop" up Newcastle way, was a hero, they got him out though.

This was my favourite quote:-

"UPDATE - Like all vandalised Gatsos in the area it was replaced shortly afterwards but the new camera has since been blown up using dynamite, see below. "

Its a scandal about speed cameras in general, WE all know its for Fund raising and yet you get all these puppets out telling you about speed kills etc

But they dont tell you the fact on the actual deaths, ie they were drunk and Speeding or the car was stolen and the were speeding etc.

The motorist in this country are a easy touch IMO.
