Spec B or not Spec B, that is my question
Sorry really bad pun, especially as it's my first post.
I'm looking to by a Legacy Spec B. Maybe something 3-4 yrs old. Prices look like they are dropping no doubt related to the fact that everything I read say they are REAL thirsty.
As I've started to look at ads I've noticed another model mentioned namely the Legacy 3.0R. Can anyone tell me the difference?
Cheers

Spec B is the performance version. 6 speed box, Bilstein dampers, different steering rack etc.
Nice cars and I was recently very tempted to get one 2-3 years old. Snag is that they are thirsty and expensive to run. A friend had one and when he wanted to sell it he found it was almost unsaleable - no one wanted it, not even dealers wanted to make an offer. So just bear in mind if you buy one you may be stuck with it. Estates sell better than saloons.

My current car is a 1998, Mk II Lexus GS300, OK an old man's car (long story) but that loves it petrol and I doubt the Spec B could be much worse, might even be better!
So I'm not too concerned about the fuel, as the company picks up most of the bill.

Petrol is only part of the issue. I don't do many miles each year so petrol wouldn't be a big issue for me either. Depreciation and the difficulty in selling the car after 2-3 years is what put me off.
You can get a decent 2006 Spec B saloon for £10k, but what would you do with it in 2-3 years time? They are incredibly difficult to sell, they virtually take root on dealer forecourts and selling one privately would be nigh-on impossible unless you almost gave it away. They don't have any following like the Impreza does.
I'm not saying they're not great cars - they are, its just the practicalities of ownership that you have to think about.
