Default How can you tell an STi from an RA

I am sure my car is an MY96 STi V3 but my insurer has it down as a STi Type RA.

What are the differences? Are the trims different.

It has the light weight bonnet and boot lid, 4 doors, no roof vent, rear wiper. No DCCD

for a start the STi version of the RA came with the roof vent and DCCD (the WRX did not) other things to look for it the lack of a rear wiper and ariel on the A pillar rather than the rear wing passengers side of the RA

i would say you either have a WRX RA or a STi non RA

It doesnt have any lightweight panels: all JDM saloons have an aluminium bonnet and that is it. It certainly sounds like a WRX STI, but the way to be sure is to check the applied model number. It starts GC8 and it will end either 4ED or 4DD. 4ED absolutely identifies the car as a WRX STI and 4DD identifies it, beyond doubt, as a WRX STI Type-RA.

As said, check the model codes on the VIN. Unless the car is a ringer then you will be able to find out exactly what model it is.
