Thumbs up 08MY WRX STi PPP now available

Dealer (Adams) has just told me it will be the usual ECU & Exhaust giving -

330 ps at 5400 rpm, and 470 nm at 3400 rpm, £1600 fitted.

Tempting !

£1600 seems ok in comparison to PPP's of previous, as the new STI has that quad exhaust and obviously the design cost with it all being new.

Yeah I am very tempted, gonna be due my 10K service next month so I think I'll drive it in with 300ps or whatever it is now and a quiet exhaust and pick it up with 330ps and a bit more burble

I was at the local main dealers today and for the first time I saw an 08 that I really quite liked..!

It was their demo STI, now up for sale (at £25k ) in dark grey with gunmetal 18's and front fog kit.

It looked very tempting.. although I still don't like the rear light clusters, IMHO the 08 is starting to make the previous models look dated..

I think you need to see an STI in the right colour, on 18's and in the flesh. It doesn't photo well..!

The 330s is due in anytime, but at nearly £31k.. I recon there won't be many takers..!

Incidentally, the dealer told me they'd had the best first two quarters to the year for a very long time. It has understandably dropped off in recent months, but the hatch seems to be selling well in all forms (1.5>)..

The 330s isn't actually that bad, considering the PPP is £1600 matching the power but for an extra £2400 you get the sat nav, recaros, 18's, keyless entry etc..

Still good news to have the choice of the power upgrade without the extra ***** & whistles you may not want though.

Most owners of '08 Sti's on here seem to have traded in their Ford Focuses to buy the Impreza. If that pattern pans out nationwide, over time the hatch might yet do quite well. The intention is after all to appeal more to the mass market.

How do you get that theory ? as the ones I know of have gone 54 - 55 STi for 08 STi

Go into any dealer and they'll tell you the same BS, that way when you go to buy a new car from them they don't appear to be desperate but when you look at the facts, Subaru sales are down 40%

Don't believe the hype, the Hatch has fallen on its ar$e in terms of sales.

It's now listed on the Subaru website as an accessory.

Is the exhaust pic on the Subaru site only there as a guide? It still has quad exits, a pair per side. On the show pic's of the 330 it had two large ovals. Who's gonna get the first one and review it

It's the whole "pay an extra £400 with Powerstation for a possible extra 30bhp" that's bugging me....

That's always been the trade-off for the PPP kits, perhaps more conservative than 3rd party upgrades but complete warranty confidence?

How much of a difference have you noticed coming from a 350 blob to a std (300) 08..?

Has it been confirmed if a new fuel pump is included? No mention on the Subaru site? I only ask because there isn't a mention on other sites who are remapping them and I thought if Prodrive included a pump others might be missing something.

The 08 car's quite a bit heavier than the blob,

the power/weight ratio of a 350bhp blob is way peppier than a standard 08, i'd equate a new STI with the old blob STI (in standard form)

I came from a 320bhp 2003 STI and it was quicker (especially past 4,500rpm) and pulled soo hard to the red line

The standard 2.5 map just seams under fuelled when pushed... with boost surging in and out on WOT.. not sure if anyone else finds this.

PS

I've never owned a Focus....

I've not owned an STI before but did have a WRX with PPP back in '02 and to be honest I'm slightly underwhelmed with the power delivery of the standard car. Don't get me wrong it's a pretty rapid car but it's leaving me feeling unimpressed and not what I thought the STI would be like. I suspect the improved response from either a PPP kit or a remap from elsewhere is going to release what I always thought it was going to be, certainly it needs an edge and perhaps the PPP will still be a little dilluted? I think I'm talking myself into a trip to Litchfields/Powerstation unless someone like Prosport can do similar more local to me...

I think the 2.5 STI are under turbo'd?
There is plenty of mid end grunt but the power curve tails off where as the old 2L pulled better "up top"

Not sure about that. Prodrive have extracted a much better power curve via the PPP and on the same turbo.

Decent torque improvement as well

I would probably agree it does tail off a little at the top end but i would not say it was any worse than the 2.0ltr.

I reckon i will be parting with some pennies soon so i will report back on how the PPP delivers

For me the biggest difference is the power delivery. AndrewC mapped my blob STi for acceleration. Almost no lag .The only downside if you can call it that, was it felt like it wanted to be at warp speed all the time . In a straight line blob was faster, but my 08 STi feels like it has got the potential, just needs tweeks. I have known a 2.5 to develop 350bhp and 400lb/ft with exhaust, filter and remap But going from A-B I feel the 08 is quicker even tho' 53 STi had prodrive springs and geometry. I think i am alot more confident with the handling and braking. Feels quicker with the traction control switched off too, bit more of a raw acceleration But in all honesty i will get a power upgrade, just as i have with all my impreza's. If I had not come from another impreza then yes this car would be well quick enough, but i havent and i know what potential there is for little outlay. And you know yourself, the difference in your car after a remap is remarkable . Miss my 53 STi but i think with a remap this car(08) leave it standing in every department. IMHO before anyone gets upset.

Lee
