Default Wheel offset

How important is your wheel offset? I'm going to getting new rims shortly and am unsure exactly which offset to go for. I have done a bit of research and so many people have different values.

I'm going from the standard 17 x 7.5 rims which have an offset of 55 I think to an 18 x 8 rim. Probably PFF7's.

I saw someone on here had a 53, is this right?

If for example I was told to go for a 50 offset, how far above or below this figure could I go without having an effect?

The car is lowered on Tein springs if it makes a difference.

Thanks.

Basically the lower the number the more the wheel will stick out from the arch.

PFF7's are 18x8 51 IIRC
PWRC1's are 18x7.5 ET46 in the STI fitting

Depends on width of wheel but in 18x8 aim for ET48 and you wont go far wrong. Any higher and you run the risk of not clearing your brakes should you decide to upgrade. Much lower you run the risk of hub/bearing damage I am told. PFF7's ET51 are slightly different in this respect as they have quite a convex shape.

Only other concern is tyres. On a 8" wheel 225 tyres can leave the rim more exposed than a 7.5". Personally I would run 235 on a new age wearing 18x8's.

So in effect the lower the number it makes the wheel track wider cos the wheel will be further out from the hub?

I was going to go for 235/40 18 rubber.

and double

Done waste your money on PFF7s, Rota do fantastic wheels which are much cheaper/lighter and look awesome Go for 18x7.5 ET48 and you could go 225/40/18 with the rubber.
