I'm pretty much 100% PPP was only for years 99/00.
I had it on my MY00 and sold it.
What makes you think this 96 has it, apart from the buyer saying so?

The WR sport kit was introduced at 99MY - subsequently renamed PPP, nothing before that can have either, if its so advertised I would check carefully as to what has actually been done, if not 100% happy then walk away!

I guess it's a bit difficult from photo's all you can see is prodrive seats, induction kit, strut brace, and though its not advertised as an STi the intercooler looks like an STi but no redtop engine and the sellers say so?. Its done 98K should i walk away or look at the car. Anything I should look for in regards to cam belt ware etc?

Thats not the best way to tell. A BB is an easy add on.
The guaranteed way to be sure, apart from the certificate, is the ecu has a distinctive pink STI sticker. But I'm not convinced it was released prior to 99.

I have a link to the offical PPP package on the classic, I sold it recently, and it specified year 99/00 only. Just can't find it

The 95/96 cars ran a wrx ecu for super unleaded only (240bhp) it included an exhaust and backbox (removing the centre cat and replacing with a resinator box), panel filter, intercooler piping, there may have been a brake pad/disc upgrade also included, but we are going back a bit now

I was always under the impression that all PPP cars had to have the later MY99/00 mappable ECU but what do I know.

No, the PPP's on the 99/00's were different to the 95/96 then 97/98 PPP's

Well my 96 car was definitely PPP'd, standard on the rollers gave 240BHP non PPP was 215 I believe , with the certificate to prove.

You can always contact the dealer network as they can provide a cert/tell you if it was PPP'd
