Default nearly £1000 for front crank seal!!!

As above, just taken my car in for a quote for this to be done - my jaw hit the ground when he given me the price!!! Is this what I should be looking at to get this done, or is it way over the odds? It's not main dealer, but is a very good (if a little pricey) local garage!

well the actual part is around 5 pounds, so seems very steep. Must be a cambelt change aswell.

Cambelt needs to come off to do it. If you let people know ur location location location they might point you in the right direction to somewhere a bit cheaper.

£1000 for a cambelt change?

I got a mate of mine that changes cambelts all day long to do mine for £150. I just had to supply the belt and warm place to work.

Who told you that?
For an authorised subaru service center they are well priced, though you should understand that if you want the job doing and doing well its the only place you should take your car to

WOW 1000 smackers!!!

You are being completely ripped off!!

A good Technician can do this in less than 2 hrs.

A very bad one, doing it for the first time wouldn't take more than 3.

A mate paid under £300 recently for the front crank seal/cambelt change.

I believe that there is a front and rear crankshaft oil seal with the rear one being a bitch to do and therefore alot more expensive.
Is it deffo the front one they have quoted you for?

You're being ripped off plain and simple.
It's an hours job maybe two at the most.
Cambelt is circa £100 oil seal is about a fiver.

even if they have to change the cambelt tensioner or two it should be around £500 max.

Go else where.
