AP brake upgrade question
Forgive me If I'm being a bit daft here!
I'm looking to upgrade the brakes on my MY99 and the obvious candidate is the AP 4 pot 308mm kit from Godpeed, as I have 16inch wheels.
I will be going to 17s at some point, but the brakes have to be done first as my current discs are past their best so...
Would it be possible to retain the std disc size (294mm) and fit AP 6 pots (there are some new ones going 2nd hand at the mo- opportunity knocks) then when I upgrade the wheels, just get larger discs to suit? ( I know the 6 pots are usually used with 330mm discs or larger)
I have speedline competition 2 wheels - I know the AP 4 pots fit behind them with the 308mm kit. Are the 6 pots much bigger?
Or is it all academic as the 6pots simply won't clamp the smaller discs correctly...maybe different disc width etc?
Perhaps I should just be happy with 4 pots?

AP 6 pots with 330mm rotors will fit behind P1 17" alloys no problem. There is about 3mm clearance between the balance weights on the inside of the wheel and the calliper!
Offset 52 IIRC for P1 OZ alloys
17" will fit but be wary of the offset

Thanks for the comments all.
My position is that I have to get the brakes BEFORE I upgrade the wheels; I can't afford to do both at the same time.
Since there were some 6pots going 2nd hand, I thought that I would see if it would be feasible to tuck them under 16inch wheels with smaller discs, until I upgraded to a 17inch wheel (and could then fit larger discs (I also note that Ksport do a 6 pot kit that will fit under a 16inch wheel).
However unless anyone knows differently, it looks like the answer is a big fat 'no'!

Have you considered the K-Sport 6 pot set up......using the 304mm discs they fit under 16" rims.....they also use the same pad pattern as the Ap Racing 6 pots....
I run them with Ds2500 pads and they are spot on......
