Question 30K Setvice £834.30

30K Service 223.20
Courtesy Car 15.00
4 Wheel Alignment 80.00
Oil Filter 6.08
Drain Plug 0.90
Fuel Filter 20.10
Spark Plugs 36.10
Engine Oil 53.95
Gear Oil 28.88
Brake Fluid 3.43
Environmental Charge 2.38
Screenwash Additive 1.50
Sundries 4.00
215/45R B/Stone (2) 234.52
VAT 124.26
Total 834.30

I'd be interested in knowing how that compares to others who have recently had the 30K service done.

FYI
Both rear shocks got replaced FOC under warranty - apparently a known problem (MY04 - extended warranty to Dec 09)

If you take off the non service items (tyres, alignment and courtesy car), it comes to £447, which sounds about right for a main dealer.

Mine was around £350 at an independent.

well you can take £319 plus VAT (approx £53)from that for tyres etc.so approx £450 in total.

Still seems a little much though.

I would say thats expensive. I just had a 50k service done last week but the car hasn't quite hit 40k yet, just the age of the car made the difference. The 50k service included the cam belt which bumped the price up a bit.

Inc all parts and oil required the service should have been in the region of £350, I had new rear pads put on and even with the extra labour charge and price of the pads the total bill was £481.

A run down:

50k service excluding parts = £224
Hazardous waste = £3
Consumables = £3
Engine oil = £37
Screenwash = £1
Sump Gasket = £0.95 ??
Oil Filter = £6.40
Cam Belt = £85
Rear Pads = £49

All plus VAT.

This was at a Subaru dealer.

Last year I had the 40k service done, again 10k early, which was basically a check over and change the oils etc and it was just shy of £200. Courtesy car was free each time.

30k service is more expensive than the cambelt one. i'd say £450 is about right for a dealer, think i paid around £350 for mine at a re motorsport.

i would of said £80 is a decent price for alignment m444gy. i've been looking about for this(round my end of the country) most are about that some more.

Love to know if the alignment was really done too, as unless they have the equipment its done 'down the road' usually. Zero settings all round for the dealer cars I imagine, if it gets done at all !

Tyres are about £50 too expensive, Courtesy Car 15.00

Spark plugs don't need doing really and as for Environmental Charge 2.38
Screenwash Additive 1.50 Sundries 4.00

If you take off the alignment and tyres its expensive but normal.

Shop around in future for the tyres and alignment.

Replacing shocks does not affect rear alignment.

If the alignment was done properly then £80 is not too bad - cheapest I can get it about £55 on a Jim Beam. Really I would expect them to provide an alignment print-out with 'before' and 'after' data so that you can see what has been done and what your settings are. Most modern equipment will provide this at the click of a mouse button.

I thought the fuel filter doesn't need changing on the hawkeye until 60k miles?
Its a bit of a job to do (its in the fuel tank) so nearly £100 (parts & labour) is down to that.

Tyres are not part of a service, so your figure is misleading!

Mocom Racing just quoted me for a 30k/3 year service, total cost £400 including Motul oils, an STi panel filter and Denso Iridium plugs.

Not had a 30k because bought car with 29,700 and it was MOT'd and Services by Subaru 2 days prior to me buying it from the owner.

However i've a 40k coming up and thats £160. Thought that was pretty good for Subaru Specialist.

The £15 for the courtesy car will probably just be to cover you for insurance.Common policy with a lot of dealers but i usually get them to drop that as a gesture.

The one that ALWAYS bugs me is the charge for screenwash.I top mine right up before services and they still charge for it regardless. What i was told last time when i scoffed at the charge when looking at the invoice, was it was 'to top up what they use when they test the washers' Yeah,my ****!

Oil does seem steep though, would have thought around £35-38 + vat would be about right.

I double checked the service book when I got home and the fuel filter was meant to been done at 30k - so that's where nearly £100 went.
What a stupid design to have a serviced item tucked away in the fuel tank.

£15 for the car is a p1sstake, I hope the tank was full! My dealer charges £8 with usually nothing in the tank, which is pretty bad to.

Cool

Up in the north where men are men and sheep are nervouse

I pay £300 for a big service
£100 for a small service

cambelt and small service about £270

cheap up north and the job is done right at our local specialist

and tyres would of been £75 fitted each
