Sounds a bit over the top to me mate, take your time and shop around, there are a lot on the market at the moment and they are not selling, so you should be able to find one for a lot less than £15k.

If the dealer you've been to is Slipend you are going to be fine there. Probably the best dealer in the UK and very clued up. Speak with Paul Fliton and he'll see you right for a proper deal. I was over there today and there are a good few over there which you may be interested in.

Hi,
£15k for an 04 STi is severely overpriced, by at least £3000, imo. My advice to you is to take your time and look around thoroughly. Spend some time on Autotrader and type in your requirements before searching, there is always a good choice of nice STi's on there. Also look at Pistonheads, many dealers advertise on there. I would say that you are looking at around the £12k mark for a nice 1 or 2 owner car with full history and no question marks. I paid £12500 for an 05 Euro STi from a dealer last June, and that's before the car market crashed, as it has done now. Finally, a Subaru main dealer will usually offer you a worse trade in price than an independent dealer, as the main dealers greedily want it both ways.

Hope this helps.
