Default Dump Valves

Now,

I have one of these fitted to my new wrx classic and it winds up a treat then makes a lovely noise.

What do they actually do?

they make a stupid pointless noise and mess up your fuelling. The extra fuel washes your bores. They usually sap power too.....

Are they easily removable?

I think it is sapping fuel TBH.

It should be, you can re-fit a stanard re-circulating part. Fuel economy isnt fantastic though, no matter what you re-fit.....

I don't know mate - i have no idea what they do or how they affect stuff under the bonnet.

Im a complete idiot when it comes to technical stuff with cars.

Maybe the fuel consumption is just generally carp

Not that im complaining because every gallon is worth it !

They have a re-circulating air bypass valve as standard (the correct name). A 'dump valve' as described here is a VTA air bypass valve. The clue is in the description of the noise made...

Cool

Basically, the ones fitted and recommended for Scoobs "dump" the metered air back into the system whereas the VTA, or vent-to-atmosphere type just dump the compressed air, so that the car fuels for more air than it receives, causing bore wash, poor fuel consumption, and possible cat damage.

Recirc or vta, their still both dump valves, they just dispose of the boost pressure in a different way.

Your car, your decision.

But before making it, ask yourself why NO respected tuners from Prodrive on down will recommend, or use a VTA d/v.

There's always someone who will tell you to "go for it, fit a vta, my car is OK", but it's not HIS car YOU need worry about.

If you do a search on here you'll find a few folk who have taken vta d/v's off and seen better running.

I must admit,i fitted a baily to my last car,did nothing but made it run bad. Fitted a sard r2d2 to my RA for an hour, made it twitchy and too loud! Thats just my opinion.

I had a Turbsmart VTA on my car when I bought it, I replaced it with the OEM recirc valve and now have an uprated after market recirc valve. The VTA was by far the worst as not only did the noise get on my **** after a while but it also felt a but juddery when idling or in low revs.

I want rid of it.

I'll go down to the garage and ask them to remove it and sort it back to standard for me...

Thanks for the replies folks...

Ive got a 50/50 recirc and atmosphere turbosmart Valve and it works just fine, gets some of the air so less over fuelling. It comes down to risking damage to your engine for a noise.......I like the noise so ill take the risk
