Reading the MY01 not selling thread it occurred to me that there are some common complaints about the previous model whcih Subaru made various half ar5ed attempts to look like they were addressing.
So, has anyone who has driven, or owns one, got any factual comment on whether they have really improved the "adequate" brakes and the crappy lights and whether you can select reverse gear without an arm wrestling match.
Can anyone persuade them not to put "cap and tap" locks in the bloody doors too as it just encourages planks with screwdrivers and the repair cost is usually within the insurance excess! I don't think I have ever used them.
Oh yes, and is the paintwork still scratchable with a shirt sleeve?
The vehicle is a four wheel drive, so can we have mudflaps or guards of some sort as standard too? What about wing mirrors that fold themselves away when you drive into your garage, like the Japs get on STIs?
Gosh I think I've been watching too much Star Trek.

IMHO the brakes on the new Impreza are far better than the MY00, and probably the best of any car I driven (and I've had many test drives recently).
I can't comment on any of the other points though...

I thinks the brake feel is a vast improvement also - But I've driven far better, cars without ABS still feel much better. But the ABS came in very useful on my test drive !!!!

the brakes i feel are definitely an improvement on my MY00.
only had a very quick drive, arranging to have my dealers demo for most of a day soon.
i did feel it handled and held the road very well.
did not drive it in the dark but hey, maybe those horrid lights are a massive improvement ! there has to be some reason for them !
cant say i have trouble with reverse in mine ?

Having driven both the WRX and 2.0GX I too can vouch for the fact that the brakes are an improvement. Then again I drive a Sport so I'm not used to discs all round anyway; but IMHO they were much better.

It looks a lot better in pitch darkness and with all the lights off

Done 14,000 kms In my MY01 here in oz,
Reverse a pain,
Lights brill,
Brakes worthy of leaving skidmarks(skidders)!
Paint microthin
Managed to take out fog light+ lower bumper playing on dirt road OOOPs
Car lowered, blacked out,has different rad side scoops to original.
Rego number is 'WRX' what more can I say happy as A pig in Sh*t

Two weeks today and I'll be able to answer all your questions. Because my new WRX has just arrived at the dealers. To a certain extent, I don't give a toss what it looks like... only how it goes and I have no complaints from my test drive. As commented before, there are areas for improvement but that will just give me some encouragement to buy the next model! Anyway... after two other Scoobs, where else could I go?
