Default Unmarked WRX in MK area

Monday (yesterday) my dad was having his his new struts fitted at Northants Subaru and while he was waiting, he saw driving around Waitrose car park, Towcester, a black WRX with gold alloys and guess who was driving it, police.
Luckily my dad remembered the reg AK07 BZV.

Just thought I would let you all know.

Problem is, I've heard from someone who used to be a top traffic cop that they buy unmarked high performance cars and several number plates which they switch around. An example of this is in the late 80's when this particular constabulary bought 3 unmarked Sierra Cosworths and 20 number plates to go with them, which they regularly swapped!

It's true, we look after Manchester's un-marked Hawkeye WRX police cars and i believe the correct term is to 'ghost' the vehicle in question. All the parts are ordered with the VIN alone as the VRM means nothing. Sometimes i don't have the heart to tell some of the STI customers who write these numbers down and put them on their sunvisor/tell their friends etc that we have issued 6 sets of plates this week alone! All with the company logo on of course.
