PT Cruiser - Hit, Miss or Maybe???

Looks good, but could do with a bigger engine option me thinks. Don't go for black with black tints or you'll have people putting flowers on the roof and coffins in the back....

Seriously looking at one of these.... I think it looks FAB, but a lot of others thinks its the work of Satan himself.
So knowing how well informed all you guy's are I throw down the gauntlet to dissuade me from buying one...!!
Not Scooby dynamics, but a lot cheaper!!

I agree, they look great. Saw a pic of a silver, lowered one with wide Cro-Mag wheels and it looked very cool. Problem is, 2.0 litre normally aspirated, 115bhp? It needs a 440 wedge-head with Holley six-pack carbs and a shaker hood to match up to the looks ...

I think they look very cool.
Slightly too "London Cab" from the back, but otherwise ace.
Get it in black, blacken the windows, put big chrome centerlines on it, change the exhaust for something rorty and go posing..
(uh oh.. my Street Machine magazine upbringing is showing again)
Supposed to be a very practical family car too (if that floats your boat)

Hit - Initial reactions were good, something different, cool retro look.
Miss - Dale Winton as well as other showbiz loveies have one!
Maybe - Friend has one, and not that keen on the specification or performance!
They're quite common on the road, and the see more of those than I do Subarus!! "It's not really my bag baby" Until they release the supercharged version

We test drove one for the missus - she complained that it was not powerful enough.
Everything elsel was spot on - Build quiality , ride etc etc.
Looks - IMHO Well cool in Silver or Red ,avoid black or blue - Taxi/Hearse look a like.
We asked dealer for Black n Flames and we were not the first.
The sister company for Brabus in the states are doing some good kits for them.
The production will slow down for the next six months whilst the RHD production line is slowed to allow them to build more LHD drive models.

Big Hit - Me & the MIssus had an automatic one as a Hire car in South Florida last July.
Drove more than 1250 miles in it. Could not beleive the amount of (friendly) attention we received from the Yanks.....

Well I saw this black one the other day with tinted windows - All black - the only non black things were the big silver alloys with tyres of about 1/2" profile.
Bit like a hearse?
only a bit
stunning
If it came with 300 bhp and subaru AWD I'd put my name down for one

Wife's boss has one at a paint shop at the moment - black car having proper custom car flames put on it
He says the ride quality is good but he has no idea about speed as he rarely goes outside west London. I'm looking forward to seeing it when the paint job has been done.

Miss in my book.
Only seem to be driven by people who want the attention (bit like the Z3).
I think it will go the way of the new beetle. Prices going down faster than Dirt Box Dale Winton in a gay club.

Thnaks for the replys guy's.
I was initially attracted by an advert in our paper for On the Road price of £13,999 I'm surprised you seem to think I can get one cheaper.
I thought it would hold its money better than my RAPIDLY depreciating 99My 5Dr Turbo, are these going the same way??
I agree the black ones are a bit Taxi cab from the back, but I like the silver ones.
Funny that most of you seem to like them...I was expecting a few NOOoooooooo's!!!!
I can see myself bending over the dealers table come Saturday ready for a shafting.....I was tempted because the trade in price of my Scoob is the OTR new price of a PT Cruiser...Has anyone heard of a Dealer doing a straight swop?????
Can this happen do you think?

You can'na change the laws of physics Jim.
A dealer will always want lots of £££ along with your trade-in.. even if you were trading in a new Diablo for an old Daihatsu.
They always seem to want money on top..
I tried trading in a 3 month old Celica (£24,000 new - I know.. don't ask..) for one of their squitty £10K jobs.. and they still wouldn't give me any money back at part of it.
One up from pond scum. (or is that one down..)

I saw one of these at a local motor show in Orlando. Talking to enthusiasts about it the problem seems to be lack of power. There is very little room in the engine compartment to fit a heftier lump.
The chap I spoke to has a mechanic friend who put a much bigger engine in the rear passenger space and turned it into a rear wheel drive car. Cost a huge amount of money but was intended to test the market for this type of conversion.
My brother in law seems to think the PT Cruiser is about posing ('Cruising') not about performance and wants one.
Does that help at all?

Its a hit in my books if the following is done.
It must be Black.
All the trim including the bumpers must be colour coded black
It needs to be lowered
It need LARGE wheels 18's min.
Tinted windows
No flames
then the Super charger needs to be fitted
Twin exhausts
In fact the Wife want the above to replace her Shogun.

Miss in my books as well I'm afraid.
The platform and drivetrain are the same as the Dodge Neon.
Oh and they're as common as muck around here

Here in the US, Chrysler is supposed to be releasing a 225HP turbocharged version of the PT Cruiser. I think they are calling it a GT Cruiser or something similar. It's supposed to be out as a 2002 model this fall.
