mine was doing that a while back....head gasket was about on its way out!in the end cost me £4500 with a new cdb from api..it could be something of nothing though...thermostat sticking?dont mean to worry you

problem sorted by the nice guys and girls down at sheffield subaru services at darnall on 01142430099 Turned out to be air in system many thanx to paul who sorted it will be calling again well recomended.
