Hi chaps,

Been reading info on ecu remaps, but being a newbie and seeing there is a thousand one threads on it. Just wanted to know what results I could expect, and how much it would cost?


I have a UK STi 05 PPP, with green panel filter and ppp kit but with straight through where resonator section was.

Would I benefit from straight thru Blitz system or similar? Should I leave what is on there and just get map done... and by who?

Advice and examples of power please.

veiw my scooby for pretty much the same as you although i had colder spark plugs put in before the map, as for who to use everyone has their fave and whoever is mentioned on here will be good, it depends where you are also

You can remap that model car yourself with open source mapping software.

But you sounds new to tuning so i would skip my advice....

 

Your backbox mat be slightly restrictive and may be worth changing prior to a remap as is the centre cat....get rid of it for a decat pipe and it will still pass MOT's.
The sports cat and straight through centre are fine.
So with your new, freeflowing exhaust system take it to a reputable tuner or get someone like Andy Forrest to come to you for the remap.

Look at my profile at my MY03 STI for an example.

 

It's currently PPP, so it shouldn't have a centre cat - that's ditched as part of the PPP.
By changing the Prodrive back box all you'll get is more noise! The PPP exhaust is fine for way beyond what just a re-map will give you.

Also have Hayward & Scott de res centre section. How does the remap compare to the old PPP set up?

From reading it seems like you can get around 350bhp without changing turbo etc. Am I right?

Got a very similar spec. You should see 330bhp +
The biggest improvement (if well mapped) is the throttle response, how quickly the car comes on boost and how much harder the car pulls.

PPP Exhaust is fine ... not restrictive until about 400bhp, so don't change it.
Put some PRF7B's gapped to 0.65 in prior to the remap.

I would recommend Bob Rawle if you are down South ... although Paul from Zen, Jolly Green Monster or Andy Forrest will also do a great job.

 

Also what about blow off valve?

I've read mixed reports. Would it be better for the turbo to have one if increasing bhp?

I have a question. If I can't sell my Scoob (which mean can't get my new Scirocco) then I'll be looking at remapping my 05 STI.

Was thinking of getting the TSL333 pack. Who would remap it from them?

Can you ask for a specific mapper?

Anyone got the TSL333 pack fitted? Whats it like? Who mapped it?

 

That's a bit weird, I just checked it.

TBH, I wouldn't bother with the TSL 333 pack. It is a generic pack including a generic map I believe (similar to the PPP). You would be much better off picking up a second hand PPP or other decent exhaust, buying a new Walbro 255 fuel pump (cheap), putting a high flow panel filter in (also cheap), some colder plugs and getting it custom mapped by one of the well regarded mappers. The performance and drivability will be much better than a generic map IMO.

 

Sorry, should have stated. My car is already PPP'd.

Then all you need are some colder plugs, a high flow panel filter and a remap. You should be able to do the lot for about £800.

The colder plugs are recommended because when getting it remapped, the boost will be raised - they will take the extra punishment more easily than the stock PRF6B's.

An honest 325/310 I would say, but thats just bragging rights. The best bits are in the rest of the map, but get a Nur Spec S for a proper sounding scoob

 

Always tell them what you have changed from a hardware point of view. They may ask you how much your power increase is ... best answer to this is that you are not exactly sure (which is the truth), as it was remapped to run effeciently and safely by a professional tuner. No it didn't make a big difference on mine - but I think it is insurer dependant - some of them hate mods.

You 'can' get 350bhp from standard internals with PPP the question is 'will' you. I think all you need to do is get a Miltek Exhaust from Powerstation and get it remapped by Zen Performance in leicester. I have been to Powerstation, scoobyclinic, TSL and Zen and for mapping (well not TSL for remap) go with Zen. Bob And Andy are probably the best (based on the forum feedback) but if you want stuff adding to the car then Zen will be the best compromise.

While your at it sort your suspension while your there if you haven't already to help keep the car planted.

I woild do the following: (And I have more knowledge than anyone about Scoobies on here )

1) get a Miltek decat (or with sport cat if you must) exhaust
2) Get it remapped
3) Get a wheel alignment, geometry setup for the kind of driving you do
4) Get whiteline rear anti roll, ALK, Lock down subframe kit and steering bushes
5) Upgrade your brake pads to ferrodo ds2500 and get better brake discs (grooved), with braided hoses.

Thats it Your car will go fast, handle well and stop well.

Of course you can go up from this but for me this is the best all round upgrade you should do.

Don't listen to anyone else do exactly what I have said right now.......

 

A-Plan or Gary Moulson (moleyWRX on here) of Keith Michaels insurance are the best for modded cars. Check out the Insurance section for more info. Most of the traditional insurers (elephant, tesco, etc, etc.) don't like mods.

Give Bob a call and he'll chat you through it ... but no you won't need a dyno.

Stilover being in the NE you would probably be better off heading up Edinburgh way to Andy Forrest. AndyForrestPerformance

Either Paul Blamire from Zen or Richard Bulmer from Tracktive.
Had my STi PPP re-mapped at TSL by Richard Bulmer, no other mods - 340 bhp and a much nicer car to drive. (lots more from Zen since!)
