Thumbs up

Hi Steve,

I've been through this one, and was told that they would have to replace the entire switch in each case, which is a bit punitive when some of them cost the best part of forty quid. They also have a tendency to blow quite quickly. So, I decided to get some new switches from Grade 1 breakers and fit them myself.

After a bit of prying with the old switches, I discovered that you can in fact disassemble them and replace the bulbs. They are absolutely tiny bulbs on a plastic mount that slides onto a couple of pin on the PCB inside the switch unit. No idea where to get them from, but I'm sure they'll be available from somewhere.

Lightbulb

Can anybody tell me whether there should be dashbulbs for the Heated rear window switch, headlamp washer button, and dare I say it the 'Bright' button?

I have an MY98 Sport which I had from new,I noticed the other day that there was no backlight on the HRW switch, when I am convinced there has been before (the orange bulb lights when the button is pressed, but no backlight when switched off). Then of course, I noticed the other two and wondered about those as well, as there is a backlight for the headlamp levelling switch, but nothing either side.

Car is due for its 37.5 K service at the end of the month, so I can get the bulbs repalaced then.If they ever existed!!

Thanks for your assistance.

Mike,

Thanks for the response.
Do I take it, then ,that they all should have backlight bulbs?

I wonder if the whole switch has to be replaced, whether this is worthy of a warranty replacement.Warranty is vaild until the end of July.

Anyone else come across this issue?

Many thanks
Steve

I don't think they do, I'll go check when it goes dark.

Funny how you think you know about something but then doubt creeps in!

I do know you can't adjust how bright the panel display is. Or have I missed a **** somewhere?

Steve,

Personally, I can't recall either of my cars headlamp washers being backlit, although the rear demister should be.

Headlamp wash and bright buttons are not illuminated. Why?... I haven't a clue!

Hi. I've just been through all this with my MY98. The hazard, rear screen, headlight level, driving light and rear light switches all have internal illumination, but not the rest. Subaru list only the driving & rear swithes as having replacement bulbs. The ones in the rear screen and hazard switches can be replaced by removing the switch and prizing it apart. For replacement use 'grain of wheat' bulbs from a good model railway shop @ about 50p. Subaru want about £30 for a hazard switch!

Oh yeah, I checked.

Same as Graham says above.

Get the MY01 instead and let the dealer fix it.
