Just to point out, not all hpi checks are the same.

The genuine HPI (the £20 one) covers up to £30k if their data is wrong (stolen cars for example may not have got onto the registers!) and covers £15k of loss value should the car be devalued as a result of bad data (there is a lot of bad data our there as we all know).

The £5 checks typically only cover £5k if data is wrong and £1k in loss value!!!

You get what you pay for.

Use the cheap check if the car you are buying is around £5k in value but use the proper HPI if spending more.

To me, the important bit of an HPI check is the guarantee.

A dodgy person could put their car on the market and just before selling, take out £15k of finance on the car which won't show when you do your check!! Bit crap if you're only covered for £1 or £5k isn't it!!!!
