Default Miles per gallon on a hawkeye wrx?

I know it's going to drink but i didnt think id use quite so much!
Doing normal everyday driving with kids on board so no toe down fun im averaging 200 miles out of a full tank with equates to around 15mpg, most stuff i've found on dealers sites and parkers show it doing 30mpg. Is this a blatant exageration or should i be looking for a fuel problem?

Cheers,
Shane.

should have gone for the sti matey

i average between 240-280 miles per tank(dependant on long/short journeys)

Best figure ive had was 312 miles when we drove down to newquay at a steady 70 all the way,the 6th gear really makes a differance keeping the rpm down on the motorway

50ltr rough fill up ??? 200 miles would = 18mpg which frankly is ****.

Are you driving mainly on the turbo ie above 3500 revs. If you keep it below that (which I do with the pregnant wife on board so similar to your situation) with the 2.5ltr it should be easy as you'll have plenty of torque you can easily get more I'd say upto 28-30mpg easily (30 mpg would be 330 from a tank)

I am a ....spirited driver without the wife in the car (which is most of the time) and with mixed motorway a-road b-road town driving before remap I was getting around 250 miles from a full tank (50lts) (23mpg) and now I've had a remap I'm getting 300 easily (27-28mpg).

I would suggest trying to change gear earlier (so staying underneath the 3300-3500 turbo) to see if that dramatically improves your mpg ... if it doesn't you may have a problem!

(mines an STI as well so I would imagine the WRX should be better on fuel than that)

It may also be worth getting it to a specialist to see how the fueling is running!

Gd luck .... but just so you know whatever you do it'll still be crap on fuel

No, my driving is mostly to and from work so it's steady away without much turbo use at all. normally gear change around 2.5k rpm so turbo shouldnt be spooling up too much on my journey. Think i'll have K T Greens have a look under the warranty as it's a 60l tank and from full the the light coming on it's around 200 miles, i've filled up 5 times in the 4 weeks i've had it so it's a constant reading.

PS Bushiwarrior, what have you changed to get 280bhp?

Thanks,
Shane.

I've got 380/380 MY07 WRX. Get about 200 miles from a tank. It stings a bit, but at least I'm getting to know the pretty girl who works in my local shell!

I love these mpg threads on impreza forums. I probably get 220miles to a tank with what I call normal driving wrx 03. Normal driving is not changing gear at 2,500 rpm and keeping it off boost in my eye's.

What's the point in having the car if your going to drive it off boost everywhere? If you question mpg then you should be looking at a diesel.

Well being new to Subarus i though i'd ask what other are getting as it seems quite low. The thread wasnt a complaint that it's expensive to run and what should i drive instead. By your own statement your getting more miles to the gallon than me with a less economical driving style, so should i just accept that my car uses more fuel for no reason and buy a different car or look into why it uses the extra fuel?

I drove to and from St Agnes Cornwall from Portsmouth, in my 06 Mapped JDM STI

Managed about 250-280 both ways.. with some spirited driving thrown in!

Coming back was better i finished with 1/4 of a tank left.. after 220miles.

Everyone says the STI is thirsty but I am convinced that 6th gear makes it more economical anywhere but in the town.

I think that sounds like it's drinking more than it should certainly worth a check out if nothing else.

Have patience, I'm here now .

I'll add a couple a ideas as to why your fuel consumption might be so bad, but frankly it is probably within acceptable tolerances so you're probably going to have to lump it.

This will sound daft, but it has been raining a lot lately where I am and that does affect fuel consumption. I'm not sure why, but when it rains and/or is very windy my fuel consumption drops. This morning I only got 62.1mpg on the way to work in the pouring rain while I normally get nearer 70mpg. I can only assume it is down to wind/tyre resistance. The other obvious thing is how long are your journeys? If you're doing lots of short trips then regardless of whether you're on the motorway or not you're going to suffer at the pumps.

I don't want to turn this into an argument, but you have to remember that people are very defensive about their cars and can sometimes be a little over generous with their mpg claims. Some people also can't do the maths. So while people might be telling you they are getting 25-30mpg they may well be getting nearer 20-25 and that is on more fuel efficient journeys than yours.

In the end you might just have to accept what I keep telling people - even though you can afford to pay for the petrol, because it uses so much it takes the shine off the car and so it ceases to be fun. Sorry, but it's true.

Oh, and Parker's Guide is talking b0ll0x if it reckons you should be getting 30mpg.

I wasn't suggesting you do drive of boost everywhere, but driving off boost to see if you can identify where there might be a problem may be I good idea ?!?!

I personally drive off boost until I'm ready to overtake or need to accelerate in which case I drop it down a cog .... why waste fuel and more importantly money if it's not needed?????

That's not really fair when what he's complaining about is getting 15-18 to the gallon.

I have a blobeye PPP and get around 22-28 depening on driving style.

if i boot it god knows prob 15 to gallon so about 25p per mile
if u want to shuuder at fuel consumption have a rx7 i used to manage 20mpg on a run off boost..to just start them costs a fiver

I get about 180 miles to £40 of Vpower at £1.24/litre.

Thats with average of off turbo pootling and a few blasts on the turbo round the local 60mph country roads. I never let it get below 1/4 tank. Can't be bothered working out the full tank mileage from that but its way over 200

And....I have 18" Prodrives and the speedo and tacho are set to 17"....so, might even be a little more miles than that!?

I'm not trying to start an argument but why don't you just buy a 330d bmw if you're interested in saving money and fuel economy. I don't think you have a problem with your car because mine gives low 20s at best. It might be just me but I don't see the point in owning an impreza just to overtake people when you have to!

Conversely, what's wrong in trying to get the best fuel economy from any car you drive? I understand what you are saying, but if there is a knack to maximising fuel economy then surely it is worth exploring. Even you don't drive 100% everywhere.

I still think that if you're even thinking about fuel economy then you're driving the wrong car. I don't drive 100% everywhere at all. If I did then it would drop to probably 10mpg. 30mpg at best when driving off boost but I personally cannot see the point. A 330d can be driven hard all the time and would give 25mpg, but it's boring. On boost in a scoob makes me feel good.

This is why im asking, im not complaining about anything and im happy to pay what ever it costs as im more than happy with the car, i was just curious about the consumption as it did seem rather low and going by the comments people are making it probably is. My piont from the start is that this is my first Subaru, i dont know anyone else who has one, it was just one of those thing's, i've always wanted either an Impreza or an Evo, just happens this is what i could afford and finaly bought one. Having nothing to compare it to and the claims of both Parkers at 30mpg and the Owners manual claiming 24mpg i though i'd ask what other are getting before i start flapping my arms around at a dealer. I've had the car 4 weeks now and my daily trip is around 8 miles up the dual carridge way, barring a couple of roundabouts at the begining of my trip it's a steady 40mph in 5th all the way their. the cunsumption has been constant at 190 - 210 miles per £57 of fuel each week and the weather has been mixed from a couple of weeks of warm to the wet and mild at the moment. As mentioned earlier i have my son on the way to work and as he's in the baby seat theirs no mad moments of fun on the trip. to be honest the only time i've had me toe down was on my way home from the Subaru meet at Squires cafe the other week so it's not likely to be my driving.

It really sounds like something is not quite right. It might be fairly short journeys, but you should be seeing minimum of 23-24mpg. 30mpg is probably only possible if you drive at a steady 55 for a decent distance.

Get it to a dealer if it's under warranty, if not then a specialist independent may be better. Either way I have only seen 15mpg when driving on an airfield, never the road, so something must be up.
