The power difference between panel filters is actually quite small and the filtration properties are very important and can vary greatly. The O/E disposable item is actually quite capable in both areas.
The K+N filter is a quality item and the factory filter does not suffer from over oiling. It can be cleaned and is reusable. Obviously do not grossly over oil.
Any manufacturer claiming their panel filter on its own adds 10 bhp or even half that figure on a semi standard car is telling lies.
