Default Power Bug !! Damit

Hello folks , I recently took my standard 03 STi to 340bhp , the mods were simple , full exhaust inc decat walbro fuel pump , k+n pannel filter new plugs a remap and an apexi avcr.
My boost is 1.5 bar on load 4th gear and the car goes very very well.

i beleve the car is running a VF35 turbo , what else can i do to acheive more power. what would be a safe margin to run my engine on its stock internals ? ie where will it blow up !!

the garage i use advise thats my turbo out of puff and it wont give any more.

however they have also told me if i want more power sell it and get an evo ?

any idea's and recommendations will be with thanks.

Regards.

Chris

There'll be loads of lads on here to tell you how and what you need to do but my car is 320bhp and I love it so you cann't be to unhappy.

Don't even bother buying an Evo.

Hey buddy , I am really happy with the car. why didnt subaru just produce them like that first time round.

I always thought my standard STi was fairly quick but how wrong i was now after the power hike i can say its night and day to how it was.

but its just greed i want a bit more and then proby a bit more again , but really is my turbo out of steam and is that it untill i replace my turbo and get a frontmount , also what about the standard STi internals will they take any more ?

Chris.

Your garage are right in saying that your turbo is basically at its limits.

They are are also correct (ish) by saying if you want more power then to go buy an evo. By that i mean if you want the most power for the least outlay it will cost less to tune an evo to 400bhp than it will be to do it in an impreza.

But by no means will your sti blow up with more power.

My STI 7 is still on a stock longblock and is running approx 400 ish bhp. Id say about 420bhp is about as far as id be happy to take the stock internals and be happy that theyre not stressed too much.

Id recomend from here on id say you want to be looking at the following.

Adjustable fuel pressure regulator
Larger injectors
Better headers, be it ported OEMs or tubular such as teh GTSpec Gen2s
MD321H turbocharger or FP Green

This little lot mapped should net you the better side of 400bhp and will be nice, responsive, relaible and driveable.

If you want proper power then a built motor will be the best way to go.

thanks for that guys !!

I should be content with what i have and enjoy it first.

maybe i should be looking at a 2.5 bottom end ?
and rebuilding round a tougher motor.

As Frayz said your turbo is very close to the limit of its ability.
Enjoy what you have for now and have a rethink when you have enjoyed what will be a very fast car already.
Going further involves a turbo change and additional expenditure but your internals are good for 380-400 bhp in standard form.
Carefully work out if you actually need a furthr 50 bhp or whatever and if it warrants the expenditure.

I don't think you need a front mount as the lichtfield uses the standard Intercooler and puts out more then 400-420Bhp. Even Dan a mate of mine that has his forrester STi up to 380 at the minute and is going for more was telling my that they are good for that type of power no problem. So no need for a FMIC
