From Wikipedia:-
Japanese Type-R
There was also a Japanese domestic market only Type R185 hp (138 kW)/around 8200 rpm. Civic Type-R, that was only available as a Hatchback and 5 speed manual with LSD. This model was equipped with a very powerful B16B (AKA PCT), which is essentially a destroked version of the Integra Type-R B18C Powerplant. Chassis designation was given EK9. The EK9 was very special as it was essentially based on the JDM EK4 SiR but taken out of the production line and given additional reinforcement to the chassis and body shell. Weight was also meticulously removed to create a light weight racecar feel. Other additions over the EK4 were bigger brakes, quicker steering ratio, specially tuned suspension, Recaro seats, Momo steering wheel, titanium shift ****, front lip spoiler, rear wing, smoked headlights and a hand built engine that embodied the racing spirit of Honda. This engine featured a hand ported cylinder head, lighter flywheel, redesigned cam profiles, high compression pistons and balanced crankshaft. The gearbox was fitted with a helical type Limited Slip Differential.
The Civic Type R EK9 was the sister car of the Integra Type R DC2.

Not had a play with one before, but have heard how an EP3 may keep up with a WRX...
With the EK9 being the fastest ever CTR... I'm sure it'll give a few scoobies on here a run for its money

had both in my garage at the same time and you'll be suprised how quick they are, mine was pushing about 200bhp ish and redlined at 9100, great drivers car and the noise is brilliant when in the vtec, would beat a standard uk turbo/wrx

My wrx is an old one with around 240BHP i think it would do very well against it! must be around the fastest 1.6 naturally aspirated engine!?

A standard EK9 is very good in terms of performance considering its a 1.6, the handling is excellent, the suspension and chassis are very rigid and stiff. They are 185bhp and just a few kg's over a tonne, much better PTW ratio than many scoobs.
In a straight line (when rolling) they will easily keep up with a standard uk turbo or uk WRX, (in fact its probably quicker), they are about as quick as an import classic WRX.

The thing with any car these days is that you dont know what they've got under the bonnet, there are companys tuning n/a civics to 270bhp not to mention the supercharger'd ones, a mate in his 280bhp classic got embaresed by a externally std looking nova , a friend of mine told me a story last week of a mate of his on his way home from a cruise at 160mph in his blobeye sti when a astra gsi pulled up along side him looked over then accelerated away (i take this with a pinch of salt but the three people in the scoob and a guy in a supercharged celica say it did happen), anyway lots of potential for humiliation.

i'm not arsed how they compete with the scoob, having a scoob, going out on a sunday pm on country roads ( or whenever she moans) the sound from a flat four is better than a honda civic, i'd rather have a honda 90
those who have a chav-list are chavs themselves who think they are not, chav! I hate sayin the word, has to be invented by a cockney
so, what are these civics fetchin then?

The EK9 has 115Ib/ft of torque so it's not going to challenge any modern day turbocharged hot hatch. The EP3 type R is quicker than the EK9 from 60 mph on and the EK9 is only slightly quicker off the mark due to being lighter. The handling is good because it dosen't torque steer due not producing enough torque to do so. It's a great track car but no fun as a road car as most diesel cars would leave you standing in the wrong gear.
