Roof bars / Roof rack, Top boxes - Prices? Usefulness?
#1
Hi has anybody got any experience of external luggage carriers on the Scoob? Looking to attach on 97MY.
I saw a thread mentioning Halfords kit at ~ £120, but can't find it now... & Search feature still not working
Top boxes? - Any recommendations?

Try - Roofbox.co.uk
They do all the Thule stuff and their cheeper than Halfords.
Also do a great hire service if needed.
They are located at Sedburgh so not to far from you.
Cheers

With all the paraphenalia associated with 2 young sprogs, I had to get a roof box for my MY00 last year.
After looking around, got Thule aero bars (cos they're silver and look good!) in the end from a local accessory shop as they were chucking in a free adaptor kit.
I waited until August and got hold an ex-hire Karrite roof box from the same shop for £99. Only hired once so good nick. Looked at the Thule boxes and other makes, but couldnt justify the extra £140 for a Thule box.
The box is great for adding extra storage space - now dont have to worry about taking too much stuff on hols as the box can take it. I only fill it with lighter loads though. Only notice the box at higher speeds, as the car is buffeted more in the wind, but otherwise dont realise its there. Whilst not drop dead gorgeous, the box does look ok on the car.
The Thule roof bars are a little unnerving at first, as they secure via the thin metal surrounding the door. However, most of the load is taken by large rubber feet on the roof, and it seems pretty secure.
I think the Halfors boxes are similar to the Karrite ones - except they're black!
Hope this helps

An advantage of the Thule roof bars is that they can be locked to the car.
There is also a single key option. I've got locking bars for 2 cars, a roof box and 2 bike holders all with the same key. So if you're like me and don't like carrying loads of keys around, it's worth something.

I heard the Halford's boxes leak in the rain - this was in a survey a few years ago in a Sundat paper. Not sure if it is still true but it might be better to go for the more expensive Thule option. Can anyone confirm the rain-proofness of the Halfords boxes ?
