do a search on you tube , there are video's on there showing you how its done , there are blanks in the block you take out to get to the gudgeon pin circlips , you take the pistons out first before splitting the block , when you put it back together , the pistons go in last

Remove the blanking plate, then the circlip, then pull the pins out and the pistons will come out.
YouTube - pulling pistons out of Subaru block
That video shows just how its done. Unfortunatly mine was not that easy. i ended up knocking the pins out from the oppersit end with a tent peg that i made stright.

Exploded view of the block
Once all the block bolts are out INCLUDING the M6 bolt through the Coolant Transfer Tube (below the Orange "O" Ring),insert a flat bladed screwdriver where the red arrow is pointing and GENTLY prise apart the block halfs.
The block halfs have 2 dowels to locate them together and they normally corrode on the dowels.
Work your way round the block halfs towards the Oil pump face and the second dowel.
Be careful not to damage the mating surfaces when you are easing the block halfs apart.
Hope this helps you,
Mick

I could not pull mine out how they did on the video, tried for 4 hours and it did not budge. i found it a lot easier knocking them out from the oppersit side. its just trying to find the right thin strong metal rod that will fit around the closest con rod and go all the way through into the other liner!
