Out driving today I succumbed a couple of times and I'm actually a bit concerned that my scoob isn't as quick as it should be (6000m MY00). Think I'll get it dynoed or something....

Simon - you'll feel the engine losen up as you reach about 10K. A lot of people (myself included) have commented on this. Improving the engine breathing (new exhaust, fewer cats and a decent induction kit) help things without having to spend a great deal of money.

Had an E class Merc on the A3 today, getting really pi55ed off. When we (me and a couple of other scoobs) turned off, he made this big thing of blasting off down the road. Mind you he was trailing an awful lot of blue smoke, which did not look healthy - We had a good laugh at this.

Cheers
Chris

I was really proud of myself today! As I entered a national speedlimit road the muppet from hell driving a diseased looking M reg Primera (No disrespect intended here cos my last car was a P reg Primera SRi and I loved it)went for the overtake just as I started to speed up. I wasn't in any hurry just gradually building up speed when I realised the Primera driver was fully committed. I let him go gracefully and he passed me in a cloud of blue smoke. I'm obviously maturing
I wasn't too impressed with his next overtake though across solid white lines on a blind bend on the brow of a hill!!!!
Speed doesn't kill being a forking idiot has much more to do with it!!!!!

Chaps,
talking about blue smoke comming from cars that have just overtaken you - my m8 on his ZZR1100 was crusing along an empty dual carriageway at about 90 when this Sierra cozzie comes screaming past. My M8 thinks, cor, that was fast for a car, I wonder how fast he's going......

click, click, wwwwwwwwwwwWWWWWAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR.....
a few seconds later, my M8 thinks, blimey, a car (and not a new one at that) that's doing 160mph!!!!!!!!!!! Very impressed with this car's performance he thinks! Next thing he knows, bang, smoke screen in front of him as the cozzie blew up.

Car slows down, M8 flies past waving feeling sorry for the chap!!!!!!!!

Don't get too smug folks, as this sort of thing can happen to Scoobs too! My current model Legacy GTB wagon blew a motor in exactly that fashion. It actually melted a piston and it was a truly ugly sight. See photos of the damage at

What impressed me recently was a new Supra that had obviously been modded -- it had a tailpipe you could stick your arm in. I'm on a dual carriage, he's on a slip road onto it. He decides to boot it to get on in front of me ... I've never seen so much sh*t and soot out of an exhaust before. But boy, did he move quick ... no point even trying to stay with him ...

I seem to attract the Vauxhall Drivers club in my area, in the last few weeks I've had
the following attempted burn offs.

2 Nova boys with baseball caps back to front
1 Cavalier 2000 GSi
1 Vectra 2.5 V6 (Jacket hanging in Back)

When will these people learn, you wouldn't try to race Linford Christie to the bus stop would you ???

I had the Vectra right up my tailpipe driving up the A68 over Carter Bar and down the other side he decided he wanted to be passed. He flew past and ooops, he must have forgotten about the nice Camera the Plod have installed there. He braked but all too late and then tried to blame me for his mistake by making rude hand signals and braking hard and forcing me to act quickly. I decided I've gotta either pull over or lose this D!ck, I chose the latter of the two and passed him and left him for dust.
Taking careful caution of all the cameras installed along that route.

yep the same thing happened to me... Scoob drivers think they're faster than 12yr old mk2 astras for some reason

hint : see rollcage, hear v.loud engine noise - not exhaust - so don't even try it...

..just some return fire for you

Yeh, but quoting your web site

"...for those of you who care, the bonnet scoop is a geniune Impreza item, and the brake light in the rear spoiler is from an M3..."

...they're the only reasons your car goes so well

....running away very fast...into the distance...so he doesn't find out who I am...

This dont tend to happen round my area (or maybe it does, maybe these idiots are trying to keep up, its just they cant?)but the scoob seems to get a lot of respect, its only the middle aged audi and especially BM drivers that have a go. Ive only bitten twice and havent lost yet!! (except to a 911 carrera, but I had passengers and then it was bloody close and the famous blue smoke was evident from the porkers exhaust hehehe!)

GP,
I must agree with the blood sweat and tears thing giving you a special relationship with a car. I've had a variety if mini's which as a general rule have been stripped bare and re-created by loving hands. (Before anyone says - Pah!! a poxy mini, try doing 110MPH in a mini. It feels like at least 4 times the speed of sound in a normal car). Thing is GP, I found driving the car more enjoyable than bleeding, sweating and crying about it, so I decided to have as much reliable performace as I could afford.

p.s. how many scoobs have you seen that need astra bits bolted on to make them look good?

[family fortunes style 'wrong answer' type blart..]

already had this conversation so not gonna repeat - suffice to say take a closer look at what's *under* that scoop - I need it more than you do, trust me - the brake light is also useful on track.

...and I've got a daily car - so tinkering/medical attention can be enjoyed/administered in spare time - I will admit having to work on a car that's your main transport isn't quite so appealing.

There's a lot to be said though for forgetting 'performance' per se on a daily basis, and having 'something for the weekend' - I suspect more people will be doing this as the motorist is taxed, penalised, fined and penalty pointed into submission.

Simon - does it have a H level spoiler and a Magnex s/s pipe ? (I had that down as an STi ?)

If so, tried chasing any astras lately ?

Is this thread eligible for the 'M' forum now or what ?

Every body wants a race......brrrrrrrrrmmmmmmmmm bbbbbrrrrrmmmmmm went this poor idiots peugoet 205 with a scaffolding pole exhaust on the M25 this morning. The exhaust didn't annoy me, what did was that we were in a six mile stationary traffic jam, where did he expect me to go ?

Any way I got him with a camera later on just after j13 !!!

it wasn't you on the A419 a few months ago then.. keep an ear out for a yellow astra

I hate the A420, save for that straight wide stretch - too many people rushing to get somewhere and forgetting the cameras n' junctions..
