anyone ever moved a cat ? (physically)
i know i'm wide open to feline jokes here and probably abuse for my madness, but as my car only has the middle pipe cat and it's still failing MOT's i'm thinking of modding the middle section of the exhaust to include the CAT from the down pipe too, as this appears to be the better of the two.
Am i mad
i'm hinking that the middle section is a heck of a lot easier to fit and remove for MOT's etc.
would adding the cat to this pipe work or is it something that can't be done ?
i'm thinking chop it out of the downpipe which i have replaced and add it to the middle section so that it does pass emmissions.
What do you think ???? before i attack it with an angle grinder.

The cat needs to reach a high temperature to work properly. I'm guessing that moving it further from the engine means that it won't work effectively and your car could still fail.
Think about it , if a single cat would work then surely the manufacturer's would use that arrangement because it must be cheaper at the time of building the car.
Also I don't know how good you are with angle grinder and welding gear, but you will probably end up with less smooth flow, sapping the power that you hope to gain by the decat in the first place.
I would think your best bet would be a sports cat .

i was just going to mod it and fit it for the MOT's and then put the straight through pipe back on, it's just that i dont fancy removing an re-fitting the down pipe, as it's a royal pain in the **** bolting it to the turbo.
i just thought the extra bit of CAT in the mid section may help me a little more.

would be MUCH better getting the car remapped for the emissions to be lower
its not as easy but IS possible to get .3 emissions without a cat aslong as theres closed loop control working
IF you was to get the car impounded like i had on thursday then before you get the car back VOSA inspect the car,,,, if it fails then the MOT is void and the car has to be towed on the back of a truck and is not allowed to even be driven on the road till the car has a NEW MOT issued
they tried that with me but as it was a mistake why they took the car off me they just told me to get it sorted ( after treating me like a criminal for hours and me having to WAIT for my car to get to the pound !!! )
just a idea,,,, better emmissions will also improve MPG when cruising under 4krpm part throttle too
cats are there to help reduce the emmisions should there be a fault and help the job easier
speak to some of the mappers on here for advice

MY98 Classic with some mods.
it's ok on fast idle (just about) but standard tickover is a little rich i think which is whats causing the failure.
Why did they take your car Ginge? were you stopped at a road side test station for emissions ?? (always worried about this once the cats were removed)
super lean Map then on the Simtek is athought to pass on the spot tests and MOT's ???

You just need a second standard centre section including cat and a mate with welding gear.... Or a nearby exhaust shop.

i cant, the reason why it wasnt on there data base was there was a digit out on the reg and i signed the insurance cert to agree it was my reg,,,,, genuine mistake but im being ****ed over for it, i also got a FPN for not insurance,,,, been told im gonna get done for that too which is a ******* as i pay just over a grand to insure the car,,, but 1 ****ing digit was out cause i made the mistake of insuring the car before collecting it so that i dont drive with no insurance on the way home,,,,,, ironic really
