Default scooby insurance what a rip off

i sold my scooby a couple of years ago and a couple of months ago was thinkin about gettin a early classic as a run around 4 a while but lately i have been thinkin about getting a porsche 911 so i went on elephant.com to get a few qotes heres what i got

911 996 carrera £1100
911 996 turbo £1200
ferrari 360 modena £1700
lambo diablo £1500
94 impreza sti £1500

now i know i cant afford to buy a 911 turbo, 360 or a diablo but how can they price £5000 worth of impreza the same as £50000 worth of lambo where do they get there prices from.

after seein that i dont know if i will ever buy a impreza again which is a shame but every time i looked at it id feel im gettin ripped off

It's all based on statistics. And statistics will show that an Impreza is more likely to be crashed when driven by someone who paid that amount for it rather than a more exotic car, as the more exotic car drivers are likely to be more mature and sensible drivers.

It's all fairly logical really. It's not all to do with the value of the car, more the likelyhood of it being involved in an accident.

I have my wife on the insurance as well and our mondeo was only the ST diesel lol, And not the thirsty ST24.

i know what your saying about statistics and imprezas r being bought by boy racers esp as u can get a wrx from as little as 2 k now. i mean i bought my first wrx when i was 19 and that was 8 years ago and i was paying 2k a year then to insure it. that seems a bargain considering im 27 now and its only £500 cheeper. but surely they shouldnt be classed anywhere near a risk as a lambo or porsche turbo

your talking about 10 times the value not to mention 200mph caperbilities

im 27 and im not saying £1500 is the cheepest i can find as i aint shopped around im just compareing different cars with the same insurance company and am shocked they can price an impreza in the same league as a supercar

Its suprising how much difference ££££ there can be between insurance company's. My daughters b/friend bought an MG ZR? recently. He did an online insurance search, cheapest was about £900. The next best was £1700. You would think that if it was based entirely on statistics then all insurance quotes would be the same..ish. Give one of the specialist such as A Plan or Keith Michaels (have a butchers in the insurance section within this forum) I'm sure you will get far more realistic quotes.

It's nothing to do with the price of your car, You could still hit a Bentley in your 1.1 fiesta. It's all to do with the likely hood of you hitting the Bentley and the stats are that it will happen more often in a Scooby than in a Lambo. It's also more likely to get nicked. Having said that the insurance does sound on the high side. Do you have point/history or live in a high risk area.

I think you'll find it's boy racers stealing Subaru's which cause a problem with claims

And just because Elephant price them that way doesn't mean all insures will do the same.

I would rather drive a brown metro than shell out £5500 a year on insurance.

Seriously why pay so much? I love my impreza but would never pay anything near that amount.
