Default Save On Road Tax?

Not sure if it's already been covered but, my Road Tax is up for renewal at the end of the month.

I've got a 53 plate STi which means that unless the goverment to a u turn, my tax next year will be in the top bracket.

Usually I would just stick the 12 months tax on it and forget about until the following year, but surely if I tax it for 6 months and then put 12 months on at the end of December I'll basically be getting an extra 6 months at the lower rate?

Maybe i'm missing something but surely everyone in the same situation will be doing the same to save a few quid?

Nope, you've got it spot on!
Mine runs out at the end of October so I get another year at £210 before being ripped off @ £415 in October 2009!
The crap part for me is that if it were a blobeye instead of a Bugeye the tax next year would be £115 cheaper as the emissions on the V5 are lower for blobeyes!

Slightly off topic but an even better way to save and really **** off the green brigade is to buy a pre 73 (tax exempt) Range Rover and stick a 6ltr V8 in it

Obviously youd pay quite a bit in tax for all the fuel it would use but it would be fun and would really wind people up at the same time
