Nope...saved for everything bar my last car. That was the first and last non-mortgage loan. I hate credit, it's like a massive millstone hanging around my neck. IMO people who save for things better appreciate the true value of money.

It's all money that was in my pocket already, not on the "never never".
Even the scoob is paid for
Don't get me wrong there aint nothing wrong with a bit of credit, god knows i've had my fair share but to save for a car (£14k) would take the average person a long, long time. Just make sure you are not living beyond your means, that's when the problems start. Especially when this sh11ty govermnet keep putting up interst rates, tax, fuel etc etc.

I always use my credit card !
Don't you people realise you are much better covered than paying cash !
The "deal" is with the card provider, not the company so if it goes titz-up you can claim off the card company !
LOL

I think for most people on a salary, getting something big e.g. a decent car, without a loan is pretty difficult.
option 1:
save for 3-4 years for a decent car, while getting public transport or running around in a ****ter and avoiding temptations to spend that money on those big TVs and holidays.
option 2:
get decent car now and pay a bit off each month with a little interest (say 10%) for the benefit of it. Still leaving enough money to save for smaller stuff.
No brainer for me.

I think you might find you're a little insulated in your happy little world in Sheffield . A £900/month repayment mortgage would probably get you £170,000 mortgage. Something like that anyway. Have a look on the internet at what you can get for £170,000 in some moderately pleasant parts of the South East. Be warned, you'll need a stiff drink.

£900/month on £170,000 is by my hasty calculations 6.35% at interest only. So achievable in today's climate, but not if you want the balance to go down very much! I do know people with well over double that payment on their mortgage, different things suit different people. However, my current car was bought cash, my new car (arriving Saturday) was bought cash and my mortgage has been my only borrowing for ~10 years now; if you can get ahead (I did by lots of overtime in my early working days), you'll escape loans and you can make a given salary go a fair bit further as you aren't paying £1000s in interest.

I dont get anything done unless i have the cash sitting before the car goes into the tuner....had £2k+ saved up there recently and sent the car in for 18g turbo, injectors, antilag, parallel fuel rail etc etc....least when the car was in i knew i wouldnt be in a sticky wicky when the time came to pay it!!
Hate loans and overdrafts, im not loaded with money, but I would rather wait and save than end up in the red with the bank

I dont own a credit card of any form... got myself in to trouble with it when i was younger and decided id cut it up.
Everything i have ever purchased for my car is saved for. Hence its taken a year for me to get my engine spec parts together.
Its tough but the only way for me, i couldnt sleep at night knowing i owed money i didnt have
