ignore the price and quality as i obviously am not going to buy them but how the hell do these work when theres no strut??

Used to use something similar on Mk2 Escorts, you remove your existing spring cups and weld the collared section into place, hey presto coilovers.

Well strictly the stock struts are coilovers anyway as the coil is mounted around and to the strut.

What you lack is adjustable ride height you get with AM parts, this cheap kit achieves that if you are really desperate, but to be honest I'd steer well clear as I can't see it having been well engineered, besides unless you are after looks only you don't lower an Impreza more than an inch as it screws the handling!
