If your car is a turbo, I sincerely hope it already has an intercooler!

There wouldnt be a noticable difference if you only put the front mount on. If anything it would create a bit more lag due to the extra piping. You only really need a front mount if your going for big power e,g 350+

the unit under the hood scoop is the intercooler. Its a top mount intecooler otherwise known as tmic.

Are you thinking of a front mount intercooler? (fmic)

Someone is telling you porkies!

FMICs are about keeping charge temps down, not power per se. Depending on the MY of your car and supporting mods, it may not be the best move for you.

A good one, with appropriate supporting mods, properly mapped will permit more power to be extracted from the car, but it's not a simple modification by any means!

Tell us more about your car and we can advise.

I'm not sure if you fit a fmic you need a re-map for it to run, someone else can probably answer that.

What I can say is that to see the best results from a fmic it would need a remap.

I have only been on this site a little while and have only owned as uk turbo for a short period of time. What I have learnt, thanks to peoples advice, is that you need to have a goal in mind as to what bhp you want to increase too.

Then you can work out what extra bits a peices you need to get there. For example, upgrading Intercooler, turbos and downpipes.

There are certain add ons that you can simply (he says!!) bolt on and not worry about remapping and see an increase in perfromace, e.g decat downpipes, centre section and uprated backbox. There are others that for them to work properly and not damage the car require a remap, e.g turbos etc.

Hope it helps!

I would advise having a remap no matter what you fit. The subaru engines are very delecate and changing things round can confuse it.

My best advice would be to save up and pick up bits and bobs as and when they spring up in the for sale section / group buys / ebay then get them all fitted and mapped.

What scoob is it (WRX/STI/RA......??)

For example if its a WRX you can probably pick up the following at roughly these prices 2nd hand then get a remap for circa £400 and you'll be up to 300-340 BHP

TD04 16g - £150-200
STi pink injectors - £100ish
Decat dwnpipe - £50-80
Decat centre section - £50 ish
Exhaust - £100-200
FMIC - £60-140

You can quite easilly hike up your power for very little money this way and see 320BHP easilly or go the whole hog and get serious power, but will take longer and cost more.

Hope this helps.

What model, year, turbo and what are your power aspirations and what ECU are you running?
With that information it will be possible to give you specific advice.

A FMIC will add safety depending on your model and power output.
This business about turbo lag is way overstated by people repeating what they have read as opposed to first hand carefully guaged trials.

If we knew your model year we could probably tell you if it could be mapped.
Depending on model, year and power output then possibly an HKS induction kit is a retrograde step. Is this the foam mushroom.
If there is nothing wrong with your existing dump valve an after market replacement will not add power improve response or do anything your existing DV does not do other than make noises.
