STI V5 Type R (1998-2000) OR STI UK PPP (2003)
As per title really guys
As some may have seen i was looking to get a STI UK PPP blob eye around october time
But
The main reason for a new car was cheaper tax (as opposed to my bmw 530i 2001) so ive also added a sti type r 2 door coupe to my list as ive always loved classics (had one as my second car)
What are your thoughts on the two cars, and which one would you have
The Type R would be cheaper to buy aswell which is obviosuly a bonus in this climate
Cheers

driven bothj mate and if it were me i would go for the type r, newage are more refined dont ghet me wrong but not as raw as the classic, unless you go for a spec-c but i have never had the pleasure of testing one but from what i here they are a lot better

Classic here too. That's without the argument that the classic will soon be over £200 cheaper per year on tax too.

hi mate, ive had 2 classics and now a STi8 Type UK PPP... my last classic was really quick too, remapped by andyF and i honestly have to say the newage is a muuuuuch much better car for me... dont get me wrong i luv the classics, but the newage just shocked me in sooo many ways, it felt stronger, more capable, more refined, it handles better, sharper, more responsive and its lost none of its grunt or feeling of speed.
the interiors are lush, the exterior looks spot on too. its a newer car... in my own opinion, for me the newage is defo a big improvement.
and i have to admit i totally wasnt expecting that, before i first stepped in a newage, i was expecting, bigger, heavier, bulkier etc etc, but nope, every bit as nimble and better
take one for a test drive mate! the classics are fantasic fun too obviously
now i own a newage, ive said to myself id get another classic one day yes, but only if i wanted to build some uber uber quick car for fun
... now for the small print before i get flamed this is my own opinion, and i luv classics too! just for me the newage is a beauty of a car

I went from a V5 Type R to a MY03 JDM STi and haven`t regreted it. Which tbh I though I was going to.
The Type R was awesome, Really felt like it was you driving the car, you had to concentrate 100% all the time, but it rewarded endlessly.
Then came the Blobeye, Test drove a UK STi and was very impressed with the build quality and overall feel of the car, much imporved, but it was missing something, which I found when I test drove the JDM STi, kinda feels like a better built version of my old Type R.

As 'Bicco' said, the Type R is very involving to drive and a great car full stop. I'm biased of course because I have one.
Try a drive in both if possible; you'll have a great scoob whatever you choose...
Mark.

Thanks thats a brilliant response
I love the classic and the fact of it being more Raw as you say, but i do love the look of the newage aswell, do the newage engines blow up as much as the horror storys ive heard about the classics? Which is a crying shame as i love them!
Also as someone mentioned above, it would be my daily car so the STI UK would probably be better!

Daily driver then et the newer car. The engines do let go on the older models and will cost £3k for a competent and warranted rebuild.
If you're worried about MPG as well being a daily drive then the very low gearing of the classic might get to you.
