UK cars, are they mapped for 97 ron or 100+ron???As i heard the japanese ones run 100+ron and produce around 280bhp where as the uk runs around 260bhp.
What i am getting at is if i bought an import one and run an octane booster,is that better than buying a UK one designed to run on 97ron?????(If that is the case!)

As far as I no never run an import on just unleaded, it ruiens the engine with time, i was not told this but only done a few tank fulls then moved to SUL, which is fine to run an import on. But yes the Imports are meant to hit 100 ron. i thought that the UK type was 240 BHP???? Not 260 BHP.
Anyone is this right?

The (old shape) UK cars (excluding the P1 and 22B Type UK) are designed to run 95 octane fuel. They are smoother when run on Super Unleaded, with maybe a slight increase in bhp, but not 260bhp!
MY98 and older - 208bhp
MY99/00 cars - 215bhp

I have a WRX 94 JAP and it feels very fast, are they 280 BHP??? Is there any wrx models with differing names or extra's??
I had a race with a UK Model and i out ran it comfortabley.
Also does anyone no why they are slower, what the difference is?
Not to many questions sorry.

I think early WRX's are rated at 240PS, although I could be wrong!

cheers, I havent a clue what BHP the wrx is all i was told was 280 BHP, then others whohve them say 240BHP i would not think much less than that if so ill be going to get it chipped. I heard off someone that octane booster is not good for a scooby is this right, if you can use one which one to use?
I am not really clued up on performace of our scoobys so cheers all for the advise etc.

the only reason i really questioned the BHP is that i can beat nissan pulsars and the 330i bmw and always do! I think my engine has been tampered with just wanna no whats been done. oh well bonus. coz the pulsar is just as quick as a scooby.

Scott
Pop up your bonnet and look at the plate by the passenger side suspension strut, there should be a model code stamped on it. Then compare this with the table in Andys link he posted.
If yours is a MY94 WRX it will have 240PS on 100RON fuel as standard. Then knock off 3-4 to convert it to BHP and some more for running on SUL. I'd estimate 240PS in Japan is 230BHP over here, maybe a bit less. Obviously if yours has been tweaked it will be running higher
Is there an easy way of working out how much BHP is lost per RON? Somehow I doubt its linear.

UK turbos inc the P1 can run on 95 ron fuel (dunno about the 22B thou) These cars do actually prefer to be run on a higher octane fuel thou (either 97 or optimax) as it improves performance and gives smoother running.
Jap imports can only be run on super unleaded fuel or optimax, octane booster is advisable if you run super as the higher the level the better (keeps it nearer the 100 ron mark as these cars have their ignition timed for 100 ron fuel).
Scott,
Jap 92-94 wrx's come as std with 240ps, dont worry about if it pushes a little more out, has it had any changes? ie exhaust, decat etc??? that would improve your performance.
Also if your upping your performance, do your brakes as the std 2 pots suck big time!!
Your car incomparason to some uk models will be quicker, the uk cars originally were more of a detuned version of the wrx (with the TD05 turbos) they changed after 97 i think to a smaller unit (uk cars) but more responsive and smoother from lower down(not quite the kick in the back the wrx gives you but look down and your doing 100mph pretty damn quick!! )
Hope that helps!
(oh and when you outpace a 348gt or an M3 (e36 at 120) then you know your cars quick

Mines a 99 WRX import and recently (2 weeks ago) did 270 BHP and rising on the rolling road at Power Station. They were surprised at the output - so were we.
The car needs and should be run on the best fuel you can get - I use (now) Shell Optimax.
Having had a UK spec car prior to this one, there is a remarkable difference in how it performs under certain weather conditions. I find this car much more tempermental and unpredicable. Tremendous power when conditions are right though.
I don't really know what the figures should be, as at the end of the day everyone's car is completely differently dependant on mods etc.
hope that helps
