Prob been asked before but, why such a lovely car like the RB5(esp prodrive one) a boring grey colour. surely it should have been a dynamic bright blue instead? no offence to RB5 owners as im very sorry we never got a pro RB5 from new.

Pictures don't do the colour justice, that's all I can say. As for the choice of colour I've got no idea . All the RB5 shells are solid rear bulk head ( so no folding seats ) jap shells I think , the colour was an STI one at the time maybee has something to do with it.

Dont want to start an argument here , nothing wrong with the car nothing wrong with grey, but wouldnt blue look better, compared with a p1 the RB5s a better all rounder so it should hit you right in the face!!

I have a blue P1 but love the steel blue RB5 - so much infact I nearly bought one instead for the colour alone! Still love seeing these on the roads as they are so rare.

I know they stand out as they are the only grey subaru do. Perhaps im biased as i really like blue? Anyone else non rb5 owner share my view. I mean i would much rather a prodrive rb5 to a uk300 out of curiosity how many were prodrive models?

I spent a very long time trying to decide what colour I should buy my rex in, between steel blue and sonic blue. I could not decide. After a couple of months of trying to decide, in the end I went for sonic blue, but I still love the cool grey too. Take a look at this. Blue steel looks the dogs here.

Cheers,

Wrexy.

No there were 444 cars produced as this was the fourth in a line of Subaru UK special editions

MY 96 Series Macrae - 200 produced
MY 97 Catalunya - 222 produced
MY 98 Terzo - 333 produced
MY 99 RB5 - 444 produced

IM obviously changed their numbering basis between MY96 and MY97.

Have RB5 WR myself, lovely car and lovely colour, looks grey in dull conditions, almost pale metallic blue in sunny conditions, has true individuality and no Gold alloys...Yippee!

I'd say that price is pretty good, we paid slightly more for ours with a few more miles a month ago. (WR No 320).

We have a UK300 (No 64) as well (Hel - cheeky ******) and they're completely different in a multitude of ways. The RB5 isnt as "in your face" as my UK but personnally I/we love the colour and as has been said before it looks great with those alloys. Both great cars and the rarity factor of them is a bonus. Smiles all round then

The colour's great, definately sets them apart from the rest of the UK models. IM/Subaru did seem to try to offer their 'specials' in colours not available on UK models, so the grey and yellow were all they had left to choose from. A yellow RB5, now that would have been ....er.....interesting.

I'd have to question whether it's a better all-rounder than a P1 though. I seem to remember Evo running a comparison between RB5, P1, UK300 and STi 7, in which the P1 triumphed. Obviously I'm in no way biased here. The fact that it was my P1 has nothing to do with it

It would be interesting to hear from a couple of the former RB5 owners now driving P1's. I wouldn't have thought that many of them even considered the colour. Just the car.

I thought the grey, with orange RB5 badges was something to do with the colour of Richard Burn's crash helmet? - to celebrate his first year with the Subaru team?

I'd read that too.

Just count yourselves lucky that they didn't make it ginger with grey badges!

PS. I love the RB5 colour as it is!

The rb5 is better than a p1 for me as i have a toddler (ie 4 doors)
Not saying i hate the grey, as i dont. the only otherspecial that wasnt blue was a catalunya. I would have thought they would have done all specials in simmilar blue colour. Im not being rude about uk300s but i have not really got used to them yet..will in time its just ive always wanted a pro rb5..as they are special and not too many about.

I'm not that keen on the grey either. Mind you, at least the paint stays on it!

I always wondered why it was grey myself, since the alcantara on the seats is so bright and blue. Since they didn't do sonic blue on the UK cars at the time (1999) they ought to have used that, IMO.

Thumbs up

I remember mutant-matt and I discusing scoob colours (before we actualy owned one). We looked through one of the mags and there was a picture of an STI in Steel Blue and that was it had to have that colour. I love the colour, I also like the sonic blue but it's not as rare.

With regard to the quantity made, for example the Terzo (Three or third in Italian )was 333. The actual quantity was 332 missing out the Number thirteen ! this has been the case with Subaru through all their special editions

Whats the price difference between an RB5 and a normal UK turbo thats been PPP'd? (And that can be bought in a proper blue!) How much do Prodrive charge to stick that big rear wing on? (or is it for RB5s only?)

Barnstormer

it's a bit more than just a ppp and a rear wing!! They do the interior, a big metal bar , quickshift, wheels......

the spoiler is approx £1000

cant get over the low number of prodrive rb5s. perhaps it wasnt blue as the terzo had come out not too long before it.

I like the steel grey and think it suits the shape well. Also when you see one in the distance you know its going to be an RB5 or an STi - exclusivity By the way, in each of the special editions the number 13 was avoided for superstitious reasons ?
