trackday db (exhaust question)
i went up to bedford auto drome yesterday to have my car sound tested before i book up for the end of the month which will be my first track day.
They were very helpful they did a statci test and it was 100db and i you are aloud 101db so i passed but they were kind enough to do a drive by sound test too. the car ran 85db the limit is 87db but what they did say is the wind was blowing away from the reader and on another day with the wind not in my favour it may of failed leadng to a black flag and an earliy trip home. they adivsed me to use a std back box just to be sure
the issue i have is i have had the car mapped for the exhaust system and i dont want to cause any damage or issues, so could you tell me is it safe / ok to just fit a std box onto my car for the day? and what if i were to leave it on would this cause any damage / issues over long term use
thanks
steve

it's not there meter theyre worried about, it's the councils metter just outside the Track if you trigger that then Council will close the track
but as they say, to be on the safe side put B/box on

As just an aside I have always used Octane booster on the Track as some added protection from detenation
Tony
Ps you will enjoy the day

Sound measurement is a fairly inexact science. My scoob has measured anywhere between 93 and 99 db static (both with Javelin at different venues) which is a 4 fold difference, hard to believe.

rather than mess with the exhaust system does anyone use a BUNG if so how do they find the results does it make a big difference to the sound?
and do you notice any difference in power? delivery? response?
