im sure cambelt is at at 50k?????
look for rear shocks knocking which is a common fault....mine went on my 04 sti shortly after getting....easy to hear make sure you drive slowly with no radio on and you will hear said knocking.....
cant think of owt else...full history from either dealer or performance place wud be good too.......
hope its the bees knees......

it should of had a major service at 30k i think the belts due at 50k. i believe at 40k its just engine and brake fluid (off the top of my head).
check for worn discs all round
make sure it dont crunch from 4th to 5th on fast gear change
and most important make sure the rear shocks dont clunk over bumps as they are prone to clunking

03 my cars require servicing every 10k. If you intend keeping it a while or do lots of short journeys, then change the oil half way. The 40k service is just an oil change and basic checks. Around £180 at a dealer if you supply your own oil. Cambelt change due at 50k. The cambelt change is around £300 at main dealer. Haggle both into the price. Good luck and enjoy..

It's an oil and filter plus brake fluid change i think. mines is an 03 with 36k on the clock and had it's 30k service in 2006 with all fluids changed but decided to get them done again this time with gearbox and diff and the cam belt and all brakes stripped and cleaned for £400 from a guy in the local subaru dea;er doing a hommer!

As already stated the cam belt is included in the 50k service, which should cost between £320 - £380. Servicing intervals are at 10k but a 5k oil change is a good idea. The 40k service is a smaller service and should cost between £140 - £180.
Look for a service history but don't be put off by seeing a non main dealer stamp. There are some very good Scooby specialists out there who will look after your pride and joy better the a main dealer.
Look for signs of misuse, uneven tyre wear, brake wear, shock absorbers can be a problem so check them out, gearbox selection and clutch bite and of course the usual doors/boot/bonnet/wings alignment + HPI check.
If it doesn't feel right walk away there are loads of Scoobies for sale most of them offering good value due to it being a buyers market. Just a note though a years tax will set you back £440 from next April .
Hope some of this helps.
Wolfie.

Yes mate you managed to miss the 30000 service as they can be pricey as stated before belt is at 50000 and they can be a dear one depending on the shop! And btw it seems over 30 years old is classed as a mid life crises as my wife keeps telling me i'm only 30! only!!!Doesn't stop her wanting to drive the car she said she hated, now 9 months on shes gave it a name and calls it her's!!!!! Anyway happy driving you'll love it!!!!

How much is it up for?
Make sure it's really cheap, as the 2nd hand price for these is plummeting fast! Especially with the new tax band and the petrol, you could be saddled with a pretty undesirable car in a couple of years time.

Well I'm not an expert on STi prices, but I know people on here have been moaning recently because they can't give their cars away.
I don't remember the exact details but someone the other day was selling a 2 year old car for £11k after paying £25k for it brand new. I presume that was an STi and if so it would be 3 years newer than the one you are looking at.
I'm sure someone will find the thread.
