Default Bonnet pooping up !!

Hi, does anyone know if the newage shape imprezas have ever had a problem with there bonnets popping up while driving, it's happened twice to me now, i was driving to work this week on the motorway when i noticed my bonnet pop up slightly when i stopped it had popped up but luckily been held on the catch the same as if you'd popped it from inside. It's worrying me a little though because with the scoop it's likly to rip the bonnet off if i'm going too fast. Anyone got any ideas ?

it happen to me, popped up to first catch, thought i was going to die as I was overtaking some cars at the time

I always slam my bonnet shut. I had just had my clutch done locally and I think he'd only put it down very carefully

Give the mechanism a good shot of wd40 along with the inner cable where exposed. The mechanism is exposed to all sorts of weather and cleaning and is often overlooked.

make sure the mech is free and moves easily.

Ensure the pull handle is free and moves easily and returns to 'in' position.

I spray them up on my cars when i was them - around once a month!

I'll give it a good cleaning up then and hope that sorts it out, i don't want it popping up on the motorway again. When i first got the car i was always thinking the bonnet had come up but realised that at higher speeds the bonnet does lift up slightly because of the scoop acts as a wing on the bonnet which lifts it up.

Thats about what i was doing, i pulled over as smartly as i could on a busy motorway the first time (and last hopefully) i've ever had to stop on the hard sholder.

Happened to me once as well, popped onto the first catch. Had it adjusted when it went in for service, and i always now slam the bonnet to be sure.

Quite a scary thing when it starts to get air under it!!

Mine happened on a classic at various speeds, the AA man (when the battery failed) cleaned it up and gave it a shot of WD40 - problem solved.

My 2003 STI bonnet popped up onto the catch whilst doing 50, needless to say quick check in mirror and hard braking followed.
Always slammed shut there after.

Happened to me on my 2005 WRX on way home from having car serviced at Subaru dealership. I was doing about 70mph at the time and luckily it caught on the catch. Scared the cr@p out of me though. I assumed it hadn't been shut properly after they'd serviced car and gave them an ear full when I got home. It's been looked at/adjusted since and has been ok for about 6 months although I'm paranoid it's going to happen again.
I have noticed the front corners of the bonnet lift a little if driving into a head wind so tend to drive slower if really windy. I can see this if I look down the shut line between the bonnet and the wing.

WD40 on its own won't do much for very long. Yes it'll clean up the contact areas and wash away some of the crud but it won't last for long. It needs a dab or two of grease. Do the safety latch too as if that sticks/jams it could get very messy.

Happened once to me in my newage doing about 70 on the motorway, lane 3. Very frightened. Last summer - never happened since. Had a service the day before.

True, i WD40 mine each time i wash the car.

Grease gets road filth and debris in it and can jam the catch. The cable will not benefit much from grease. WD keeps it clean and lubed as long as you do it on a regular basis

Mechanic friend i trust advised me and i haven't had a problem, ever with any of my cars, my my99 often spent time above the national speed limit - on a private road
