What's the best handling road car you have ever driven?
I went karting the other night again at Rayleigh, Essex and the buzz was amazing! Lap times were up from last month and the group was averaging low 27 sec laps. I even did a 26.79 in the final but didn't win. Ok the place is small and indoors but we were hitting 42mph.
Has anybody else come out of a karting session and thought their car felt slow and suffered from bad bodyroll and ****e steering. Is there any road car that can match or is similar to a kart?

I had a mini with nag camber all around, solid mounts, spax shocks 13" wheels etc felt like a cart and you where going at least 100mph around every corner very easy to drive on the limit. Had a 205 GTI after that much quicker but you had to be committed and keep your foot in when it got lively
I did race TKM Snr karts for a while but by far the STI is the best handling I have had
Maybe the mods make all the difference

Agree on Caterhams etc. but also various Elises, and in particular my old Exige on A048s. Truly inspiring when the conditions were right and you were in the mood, rest of the time quite exhausting...

Are Caterham's really as good as karts? I'm not slagging of scoobies because I have one but if caterham's are like karts I have to have one.

Formula ford...... doh, not a road car. It would have the be the caterham I drove at silverstone when I did my racing course.
You will never get a road car that handles as well as kart. A kart is built for one purpose.....karting.

I ran a Cayman S for a couple of years and that was a great car. All the inputs you gave it resulted in constantly good feedback and an amazing ability to carry speed through and out of corners. I went from an Evo VIII to the Cayman and although the VIII was a great car I always felt when I drove the Cayman that Porsche had engineered the handling into the chassis whereas the VIII (and Scoob for that matter) acheive it through some handling but mainly a good 4wd system that is controlled via electronics. Different approaches to allow you drive fast but I personally preferred the Cayman approach (although now need back seats, a decent boot and a towbar!).
Another vote for a race engined Hillman Imp Those are sweet engines that will rev almost like a bike engine and for around 998cc's depending on spec give plenty of performance. Ran mine on grass so handling wasn't great but would love a spaceframed fibre-glass version at some point.
Not sure my Cayman was anything like a kart though, too twitchy are karts whenever I've driven them, nice but I wouldn't like to drive on any of our backroads with them and what about the weather protection for UK owners lol.
