Default PPP or Ecutek???

Hi All,

I have been thinking long and hard on getting MY55 Sti 2.0 power increased from the standard 265bhp.

Would you suggest Pro-Drive or an Ecutek performance upgrade? Prodrive I think are still trying to charge 2 grand for 305bhp, Ecutek seem to range from £1600+, or do you know of any better deals out there????

One of my biggest decisions is price and what you get for this.....

Any good suggestions would be welcome....

Cheers

If the car is warrantied then go for the PPP, if its out of warranty then go for the ecutek.
One point to note is that a PPP car will sell better than a "tuned" car in most cases as its more recognised as being "safer", though that doesnt mean an ecutek car is any less safe.

also a PPP is a generic map ie same map for all cars of the same year whereas an Ecutek is a custom map suited to your specific car and mods etc which wins the arguement hands down for me

Hi scooby-tc, thats very interesting to know!! There was someone selling a complete ppp pack on e-bay, this included the ecu, exhaust system, fuel pump...even the certificate!! The year of car it was removed from is the same as mine. Are you saying that if i just swapped the ecu and had the exhaust system and uprated fuel pump fitted...bang PPP???

If its a decent price then go for it, the cat is a sports cat anyway, you will feel the gains, it does make the car more drivable, just note that the certificate wont be valid with your car and that purchasing a second hand kit will possably invalidate your warranty even though its a full kit, it may not be recognised as such

Hi Tony, I agree, it was for sale at £850.00. Pretty good, but you never know the risk. As far as my warranty, runs out Nov this year, I could wait till Dec..if there is a problem it will still cost!! Why wait..................?

Ecutek ain't £1600. Generally speaking, it tends to be around £600

If you don't mind getting your hands dirty, then source the parts yourself and fit what parts you can and get experts to do the rest.
I paid..........
£400 for a full system inc Prodrive sports cat.
£50 Prodrive pump
£90 fitting of sports cat (fitted the rest myself)
£650 Powerstation ECUTEk remap

So for under £1200 I had 340bhp on tap.(awesome)

Fuel pump can be had for less than £100 and i'm pretty sure you can sort the exhaust for a few hundred - even less if you buy second hand, which i guess would sit you around the £1200 area

I took my time and searched on the for sale section on hear and Ebay.
It took around 2 months for the right parts to come together, but I was in no rush and it was worth it in the end.
