They are absolutely gob-smacking even just for road use...

1. Whine like a b*stard, like land rover knobblies or MTB tyres on tarmac.
2. Wear like crazy, really soft compound, don't like snow or slush ! ! !
3. Not cheap see below.
4. About 5000 miles will see them off !
5. Camskill do the best prices I could find £125-ish 17" to £200 for 19"

HTH

P.S. my pal has a WRX and he screamed like a girl at my first attempt to corner quickly.... and I wasn't trying ! ! On my car simply awesome !

They don't hold up well on airfield track days/sprints.....

(Normal tracks and roads will be fine though)

I am also thinking about a set of these, are they better than the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas? I need a set of tyres to last me the summer and a few track days, which ones would be better all round tyre? I have heard the R888 doesn't like damp surfaces or standing water.

R888's are noisy, but they don't arf grip well!

Fpan,
Whoever says they don't like damp surfaces either have the wrong tyre pressures or can't drive. If they were dangerous in damp conditions they wouldnt be available as a normal road tyre. True.... they are not as effective in standing water.... but is any tyre. The reason why people make a big deal about this are people that are driving too quickly anyhow for the conditions and also compare to what they think they can handle when compared to dry conditions.

Ive just had mine delivered from Camskill ......will be fitted in the next couple of weeks on a spare set of rims.Would like to think they will last the summer but then again my car only does approx 1500-2000 miles a year.

With Santapod and Silverstone being local thought i would give them a go over Hankook Rs2 as the cost increase was very little.

Just a shame they dont do 215/40/17.......

Perhaps not so.

That means driver was getting too much heat in to 888's for the surface. They tend to got off quite quickly on track and that is what happens when they get too soft, but you continue to push on.

T1R's imo are one of the best road tyres for the Scoob (based on wear, performance and cost).

Plenty of grip available from T1R's, but no where near a 888 (as you would expect).

T1R's are an excellent "Wets" tyre.

Airfield tracks are notoriously harsh on tyres. Make sure that whatever tyre you use is not brand new. Best to have at least 400 to 500 normal road use or less if you drive in a constant spirited manner. New tyres will literally disappear in front of your eyes under track day environments. My new Goodyear F1's lasted a day. Bit expensive really.

Someone on here said they need to be thermally cycled at least once before giving them loads....

IIRC

P.S. Any road tyre is a distant second, I haven't tried Yoko's road legal slicks tho'.

P.P.S. Dunlop's are available in a harder compound at Camskill...

Agreed. Wasn't implying that the Goodyears were similar, just that any tyre needs a heat cycle to last. The second set of Goodyears were more worn and lasted five to six hard track days. The first set of spankers brand new ones didn't last the day.

Had Yokohama A048s on my old Exige ...... decent balance between a semi-slick track tire and 'survivability' on the road. Standing water was a serious problem though, especially in a car that light!

Dunx I still have to pay for them its just that I know Scott personally he lives about 500 yards from me very well and get tyres off him at a better rate more like trade,I remember when he first started off selling tyres out of the back of an old merc I was doing single stage rallys and he used to turn up and supply me with tyres for cash
