From P1 to TME
#1
Hi Guys,
I've never really contributed heavily to this board but I've been on and off for a couple of years now. In recent months Subaru's 'customer service' has finally driven me away from the marque. The car Colin Mcrae made me dribble over in 94-95 finally became a reality in the shape of my P1 in 2000. My P1 was definitely one of the good cars, never had a moments trouble, paint, gearbox or otherwise, but Subaru have driven me insane with their seeming inability to return calls and queries about my last service.
Soooooo, I searched around the dealer sites and in the end I test drove and plumped for an Evo VI Tommi Makinen in Black. I pick it up Saturday. If anyone's intereted I may post a little on Sunday about my opinion on the two. I've already tested the Mak and there's very little to say outside of 'incredible'.
As a result, I have a brand new, never worn Subaru SWRT reversible fleece jacket to get rid of (I'd look a bit silly in it sat in the Mak) It was £75, I'm not selling it, I'm willing to mail to anyone who gives me the best offer for a swap. Anything... DVD, CD. I'll mail it out to the person with the most original swap idea...
Pete

Ahhh, Mr Wonder, you're right. Make it a mini disc.
Having done the test drive, you're absolutely right. Nothing will reaplce the flat four. But that's all I'll miss

P1 at Mitsubishi dealership - off into the network somewhere....
Anyone wants it, it's for sale and a brilliant car. No track days, cared for and suffered none of the problems some owners have experienced.

What kind of mileage was on it, reg, any upgrades etc? I only ask as I know someone who bought a P1 from Ralliart and they seem to sell them cheaper than Subaru (funnily enough - cant have a P1 valued at the same as an Evo 6).
On the same note - does anyone know a way of finding other manufacturers cars on the Mitsibushi Used car network. On the Red Zebra website it seems you can only search for Mitsibushi cars.

Hi P1F,
The cars a W, May 2000
22k
Prodrive BackBox
They gave me 22k for it, Mak is 25. Did a deal so it's now more or less a straight swap. To help me cope with extra running costs.

Hmm if they gave you 22k then they are gonna want at least £24k for it. I think not seeing as I can get a younger one with sub 10k mileage for that. You got a good price on the P1 under the present climates. Cheers for the info anyways dude.
Edited to say - it wasnt from Marshalls in Cambridge was it? Just that I saw a black TME down there for £25,995 a few weeks back.
Simon.

Hi Floyd,
I had a hamster once and didn't like it much and I already have the star wars box - thanks anyway.
P1F - It is the Cambridge TME, I'm collecting this weekend...

How about a Mitsubishi video recorder,
Trouble it aint 4 wheel drive,
but it Does have a Turbo rewind,
and most annoyingly it's only a short play.
Would prefer a long play.
Best of all though it's electric and the mpg is great.
Sorry only joking.

Sweet - thought it sounded a bit more than a coincedence. Will have to wander down Marshalls and see if your P1 is there after the weekend. That Scotia White Evo V has been there yonks - dunno why - good price and looks the daddy. Never been in an Evo - hint, hint
There is an EVO Magazine meet in Cambridge on Sunday if you want to come and show off your new motor. See Meetings forum, Midlands, Cambridge Meet for details.

Petoir,
I'm going to be flogging my Evo VI shortly. What mileage had you done on the P1 - I got a quote from Ralliart to buy my Evo VI back just before Christmas (October 2000, 18k miles at the time) and they offered me £20k - sounds like I may get a better deal out of Marshalls... (based near Cambridge too - you weren't the bloke who parked the P1 next to my Evo at Greens were you?)
Good luck with the customer car from Marshalls - it's likely to be indistinguishable from Subaru, unfortunately.

Hi Petoir
Instead of trading the fleece for some unwanted junk how about something more positive?
A few of the Northern Gang are off to Catalunya and using the trip to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief. Three dealers have promised contributions and we will be running a guess the mileage competition for a donated Easter Egg.If we are able to get some Scooby merchandise we can run a similar competition on the board.
You don't need the jacket and you don't need the cash, right. So why not be the first to throw your hat (or fleece in this case) into the ring and get the ball rolling

Warped Chris - Ive only seen one regular Evo VI around Cambridge - yours isnt in satellite silver is it? And parked recently (well before Xmas) just off the small roundabout by the back entrance to the Science park (i.e. the CRC side).

Mine is silver, yes (and also usually dirty...)
I work on the science park, but don't think I'd have been lurking around that bit very often. Is it near a pub?
There are 2 or 3 P1s I see quite often - one driven very very aggresively on the A14 on a regular basis...

Hehe Warped Chris - it still amazed me how many people are actually on this forum. Ive seen your car several times going in and out of the science park (and nearly crashed whilst drooling as you go past). Im not sure the one I saw at the back was the same car as it was parked up next to some construction workers and the guy who got out had a hard hat on.
Which building are you in? Im in 330 and work for WorldCom (used to be called UUNET). Cheeky I know, but Ive never had a spin in an Evo 6 so would love one before you get rid. Im currently looking at getting a 2nd hand P1 so your more than welcome to come for a blast when I get the beast.
Havent seen too many P1's it must be said. Saying that I dont spend that much time on the A14 as I live local so that maybe why.

I'll gladly give the Jacket to Charity. Give me the address and I'll arrange for it to be posted.
I haven't been up to Cambridge yet, I'm based in London. The only reason I'm coming over is to get the Mak on Saturday. I'll check the meet link and may come along on Sunday.
I'm not really bothered by the running cost and service interval. I've reached a stage where I can leave the Mak in the garage commute in something else and reveal the beast at weekends. The P1 is more practical for my journey at the mo' but that's not a factor any more. The Evo is much louder, agressive and stiffer - but as a driving enthusiast I just love the extra grip, lack of understeer and uncompromising ride quality. On the test drive I felt wholly attached to the experience. The P1 too often made me feel like a unwilling passenger.

How about an History of the EVO DVD featuring the vi mak. Also covers evos 1-7.
You could play the DVD to your mates and pretend its your car on telly, (although it features a red one).
